We've been on distance learning a LOT this month due to illness and weather. I'm running out of DL ideas. I thought of having them use Desmos / polypad to create a quadrilateral themed artwork, but does something like this already exist maybe?

Does anyone have an example of a k-12 learning progression for a single strand (like functions, etc)? My professor has asked us to make 3 of them, but before I get too involved in making one, I was hoping for an example just to make sure I'm on the right track. TIA! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathsky

Hi friends! I'm working on an assignment for a class I'm taking and I wanted to get your feedback on a question: What questions should teachers strive to ensure that students can answer about functions? I am curious what others would say. I have a list of ideas, but checking if I forgot anything

3 preps plus a broken finger (arm/hand in splint) plus 2 grad school classes might be more than I can handle... Thankful for yesterday's snow day for giving me two 3 day weekends in a row to try to juggle it all!

Some days, every book on my TBR sounds fascinating and I add more and more. Somedays, nothing catches my eye, even though I have plenty of books on the list... I'm definitely a mood reader and having a grumpy mood right now isn't helping. My arm itches under the splint and winter break is over :(

If anyone wants to join us, here is the book we are reading: Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching High School www.amazon.com/dp/194249648... This term is going to busy with teaching full time, 2 grad classes, and a broken right pinky but I am so grateful to be chatting again #eduread

#eduread Thank you for doing this #eduread with me! I've missed our chats!! Any last minute thoughts on the Intro or Ch 1?

#eduread One of the chapter reflections questions was about any challenges you see in using these strategies... For me, I think time to develop and explore... overall, I don;t teach a ton of algebra, but I want to look for some tie-ins that I can help make better connections

#eduread The TQE (Task, Question, Evidence) process mentioned in this book reminded me a lot of the 5 Practices as well. I enjoyed watching the classroom snippetts to illustrate the process

#eduread In Ch 1, I found the discussion on inverses quite interesting as well. I had never thought about the function of y=2x+5 and its connection to solving an equation such as 13=2x+5 and how you could use that to really teach the idea of inverse functions

#eduread One concern I had while reading is how many teachers in my state are emergency / noncertified... how do we get this kind of PD into their hands to help them make connections in order to teach their students?

#eduread One thing I really like so far about this book is the DOING... The authors ask you to do the task before the discussion / connections
