I'm a couple of steps removed and it's not my anecdote, but I remember hearing about audiences laughing at the (first/disturbing) scene on Nosferatu... The assumption being that people reacting that way were uncomfortable because it's intense.

Try Weather Underground? Not what it used to be since before IBM took it over but still pretty good. Apparently they just sold it this month to a "private equity firm" (yay), guess we'll see how it holds up.
