General Strike US asks for people to sign a strike card. Once we hit 11 million signees, it's strike time. You are welcome to provide whatever info you want; the purpose is to make sure strikers are in the US & to have a fairly accurate count. @generalstrikeus.bsky.social

That's the main purpose of the strike card. It took me a couple of weeks of reading the website and the resources and hanging out in the discord until I felt comfortable enough to sign. But you definitely do not have to sign up or to get involved!

Valid question. @generalstrikeus.bsky.social is NOT requiring people to sign up in order to get involved. But history shows that for a general strike to be effective, 3.5%+ of the population is a critical number. It's hard to gauge that, unless there is a way to keep track of who is a yes [...]

Well, check out the site, and the Discord server and see what you think. It's good to be a bit skeptical. I was. I asked a lot of questions and looked through the resources a lot before I felt that it's a good faith effort being built grassroots and not led by one or two personalities.

As a member of a union, I get what you are saying. GSUS *is* reaching out to other organizations and unions. Most unions need a certain number of committed members before declaring a strike.

Even if you choose not to sign... when we strike, we hope that you will join us in the streets.

Sad for Nebraskans and sad for medical & science research. Yet Nebraskans keep voting for people who genuinely don't care about them.

Regardless of status, immigrants are a huge part of our community: buying & paying for local goods & services, paying sales & payroll taxes, working in agriculture & industry jobs, creating small businesses, paying rent/mortgages. In every important way, they are our neighbors. #StandWithImmigrants

Plus, y'know, the first colonists didn't have passports or paperwork. They just SHOWED UP and took land. #NobodyIsIllegalOnStolenLand.

Black people whose ancestors were brought to the USA *enslaved* in the 1600s, 1700s, and 1800s didn't even gain citizenship until the late 1800s regardless of how many generations they'd been here.

"But my family came legally!" In the 1800s & early 1900s, it was much easier to get naturalization & citizenship, *especially* for European immigrants. Literally sometimes you just stood in line right off the boat & were processed into the country. That's not the case today. [...]

Don't let people reduce the conversation to "they're only deporting criminals/'illegals.'" We are seeing in many places that ICE is rounding up large numbers of Hispanic-looking people FIRST and holding them while they sort it out, regardless of their visas, paperwork, or citizenship. [...]
