Central Park cherry blossoms skies. Near season’s end.

Esp these days one can appreciate why one might be especially reticent abt sharing dense personal health data w authorities, whether companies (like @23andme.bsky.social - who i think have actually really tried to approach this ethically) or government (where could easily land on techbro laptop).

The gist for much of the promise (& frustration) ahead for biology, medicine, nutrition etc is that huge amts of data are increasingly available (or obtainable) including in particular dense longitudinal. Whether this can be robustly & comprehensively & ethically gathered & analyzed - key ?.

These conclusions about future of precision nutrition are remarkably congruent with opportunities (& challenges) Subha Madhavan of $PFE and I described for the drug development recently - pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39674343/ see this key paragraph: cc @maggieastor.bsky.social @peteratmsr.bsky.social

I'll take herding for $300, Ken...

Arguably, an equally important topic = all the “longevity” hacks that might even be true but offer minimal impact for most - similar to statistical sig not clinical sig - or tweaks that only matter if you’re already a super elite athlete. Again, a vast distraction for most. @gidmk.bsky.social

2 v dif narratives: many tech visionaries believe (as Thiel has said) biology attracts those w comparatively less talent (vs math-dominant fields) so just don’t see what AI is poised to achieve. Many biologists think arrogant tech folks overestimate their own talent+ability to domesticate bio.

As I mentioned a few months ago, and as reported in NYT today, savvy investors pursuing complementary strategy - purchasing the use cases (businesses that clearly *could* benefit from AI) and then infusing the AI.... www.nytimes.com/2025/04/29/b... @thrivecapital.bsky.social

Some interesting examples of healthspan/healthy-aging institutes in Middle East - to wit: - longevity.sheba.co.il Sheba Longevity Center, Israel; - www.ihlad.ae Institute for Healthier Living, UAE Both seem aiming for science+implementation - good to see.

So honored to have been one of Arthur Kleinman’s first students at @harvard.edu in 1984 and to be at his Last Lecture at Harvard today.

Unfortunately, an endlessly rich trove of material - hyperbolic scare headlines that regrettably have the effect of flooding the zone with shit, so you can't really discern what might really be worth your worry. But glad @gidmk.bsky.social is bringing enlightenment here! @meganranney.bsky.social

Had no idea he was your mentor, @nachristakis.bsky.social - what a privilege (probably for both of you!).

In today's eg of the challenge of predictions (including with lots of data, including with wisdom of the crowd): the drafting of Shedeur Sanders, via Andrew Beaton @wsj.com www.wsj.com/sports/footb...

I liked this pragmatic piece (h/t @meganranney.bsky.social) - it's great to say "discontinue all UPF" but, as the say, are we sure the (pure) juice is worth the (intensive) squeeze? cc @erictopol.bsky.social

Fantastic piece by David Singer of Maverick Capital - an appreciation of the foundational role of academic science, from a SV VC who understands this especially well (his mom=brilliant pioneering researcher Maxine Singer, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxine_...). www.nytimes.com/2025/04/28/o...

"Nothing is like the ninth inning of a baseball game." Love this profile of the great Terry Francona in @theathletic.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/629... @redsox.com

People should be allowed to cope w high-stakes moment in private-yet increasingly, events from med student Match Day to NFL Draft have become highly public events for participants, eg @shedeursanders.bsky.social. At least @tombrady.bsky.social got to deal w/his disappointing draft w/o media glare.

Re-upping bc makes key pt that even if guidelines (whether for military or medicine/longevity) make sense individually, pursuit of all, pragmatically, typically amount to << sum of parts, +moral/psych erosion. Prioritization critical. timmermanreport.com/2025/04/can-... @alicecallahan.bsky.social

Fav weekly pcast @thebulwark.com Focus Group; hear directly from voters. This wk:Biden->Trump voters (i.e. not die-hard MAGAs) asked abt views on range of Administration actions; degree of support...striking: www.thebulwark.com/p/nothing-is... @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social @anneapplebaum.bsky.social

@sarahlongwell25.bsky.social @timmiller.bsky.social Posts like this seem to me a perfect example of *not* keeping the main thing the main thing, and make it easier for skeptics to dismiss Trump critics as indiscriminately hating on everything he does.

The broader point: while all sorts of extreme (young blood), gratuitous (IV drips), or both (IV drips now with extra stem cells!) get so much attention; lifestyle interventions (profoundly enhanced by GLP1s - timmermanreport.com/2025/03/glp-...) offer profound promise for healthy aging.

Love this LI post by Eric Bonabeau emphasizing how much agency we have (w/o going totally nuts abt it) over many factors leading to unhealthy aging: www.linkedin.com/posts/eric-b... . No transfusion of young blood required. Strongly agree: timmermanreport.com/2025/04/can-... @euanashley.bsky.social

Stunning statistic in today’s STAT newsletter: “As many as 600 drug reviewers have recused themselves from approval processes because they are interviewing with drug companies, according to former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb.” Recovery from this admin’s damage is going to be so difficult.

Excellent point by @alanburdick.bsky.social re: similarities to tob industry playbook also made by Sir David Spiegelhalter in "Art of Uncertainty," as I highlighted in my recent @wsj.com rev: www.wsj.com/arts-culture.... The Studio, on AppleTV, is just so brilliant; latest episode, when studio head attends Cedar-Sinai fundraiser, had feel of Larry David, and evoked the Seinfeld dermatology episode. Did Dr. Andy Robin contribute? Huge kudos to Seth Rogen. cc @sonnybunch.bsky.social

Good Rorschach for views on longevity. See yourself in this approach? Great. But like me, many will see this as parodic+offputting, & recognize one can enhance healthy aging without being consumed by this sort of pursuit: www.linkedin.com/posts/adamgr... @erictopol.bsky.social @robcaliff.bsky.social
