2025 mood.

Artist unknown.

The fact no one died here is pretty incredible. Crazy.

This is without exaggeration one of the funniest things I've read in a long while. I'll never be able to see an Aladdin toy the same ever again.

The Millau Viaduct in France doesn't have a cycling path. I'm considering complaining about this endlessly and making it the most important part of my personality.

I think I generally agree that the CANZUK Union is an unrealistic pipe dream but it feels so right, man. I feels so right!

The idea of icy relations between Canada/US disturbs me but I gotta say I've been thinking much more about that whole CANZUK thing recently...

Me: I need to pare down and get rid of this junk. Also me: I need a Socrates marble bust to put in the bookshelf. I will put hats on it.

One of the more annoying things about the 51st state nonsense is the guy who is obviously blue-balling to join the US.

Now that I've finally seen Tarkovsky's original Solaris I am curious about the newer one. Seeing that it was made in 2002 and starring George Clooney I assume it's shit but it is directed by Steven Soderbergh so maybe I'll give it a try!

When I read Solaris years ago I somehow completely missed the parallels to AI. I took the manifested visitors to simply be ACTUAL new people, spun from whole cloth and confused by their sudden, vivid existence.

Cartoons Hate Her doing some more humorous decoding of the online gender battlefield.

I had a dream last night that I met Tyler Cowen and he needed me to replace the "A" key on my keyboard with an "O". "Didn't you get the email?" He said. What.

Sharing this explainer about information hazards for no particular reason, unrelated to recent events in any way...

"So you know what she asks for? She asks for a cordless skillsaw for Christmas. For the new floor and all. She's doin' everything now. I got no fuckin' jobs left. Anyway. Wish I never got the saw." - overheard in the change room. He wasn't jokey. He was sour about it!

For some reason I've recently been remembering the genre of "portrait music videos". Here's a few of my favorites.

I have a new book out and I’m talking to a lot of people about it, in a lot of places. Maybe one of them is near you?

(Shameless Canada-posting) These are my favorite sweet treat. Stroopwaffles work great as an energy shot before a workout and are also heavenly with a strong cup of coffee in the morning. If Ontarians need a sweet fix you should be able to find these everywhere! Scheps Bakery in Norwich, ON.

MFer I grew up before NAFTA. I didn't have an avocado until I was 15 years old. I ate lunch in a Zellers cafeteria. I thought Robin Hood was just a guy who made flour. I was made for this moment.

Looking around the pantry to see if I could survive on "Made in Canada". So far I'm at mustard, two bags of oats and some Kraft Dinner. That's probably fine, right?

Wow, the world is rich with nuance and full of mystery.

*shrugs* I dunno. Gotta nuke somethin'.

It'd be funny if when we finally crack real AGI the first models to be born all had the temperament of moody teenagers - bored and utterly uninterested in human affairs. They'll make really weird music and have strange interests that we all barely understand.

When I was in my teens an uncle gave me a big book of Salvador Dali paintings because he knew I was into weird stuff. I loved it but I always hated this painting. "The Ghost of Vermeer of Delft Which Can Be Used as a Table" Something about it was uniquely frightening and loomed on my imagination.

When I first created my account I almost made my screen name "Jennifer Aniston staring into a huge CRT computer monitor".

If our species goes extinct in the next decade or so I'm at least happy we had time to make this masterpiece.
