I hope we get some photos of this baby in action!

He found that Charlie is a 'leaner' (start giving him a good backsritch and he'll lean against you and soak it up) and it was all over.

And it's worth remembering that conventions work with limited resources: function space, the time those spaces are available, logistics (equipment), staffing, and finances. It's all a delicate balance between those variables!

It did get a little weird when I walked in with Charlie and a (obviously nice and well-meaning) guy spent a solid three minutes petting Charlie, giving him skritches and telling him what a good boy he was as I stood there awkwardly π

Nah, I go to furry cons for that.

Ha! I went to pay my tab and it was logged under βCharlieβ.

We'll, ah, bring that up with the Village of Rosemont. Eventually. At some point. Maybe.

Hmm, I don't see your name on the staff roster... π

I'd highly recommend it! Viroqua is an amazing little oddity in the middle of nowhere, and the company is pretty great too π

I'm surprised how many of those I recognize, and not just the chains.
Also, @mirkowuff.bsky.social as you were discussing last weekend:

I've been playing with this: www.seriouseats.com/rice-cooker-...
Even if you don't do it overnight, making steel-cut oatmeal by just adding the ingredients and walking away (for an hour) is really nice.

When I first read the package I though it said "Skrunkles".

I have no idea at this point. All I know is that what they've done back there doesn't match the landscaping plan that was filed with the village.

This hurts my heart because that small patch of wild forest was a big reason Dan and I bought this place 16 years ago. At least they kept the massive oak tree that he loved...for now anyway.

Evidently the forest is easier to manage if you, you know, get rid of the forest.
<sigh>

I'm glad you had someone to watch out for you! I'm sure you were in good paws with our resident beerfox. π

If I had to guess, it's to prevent local fauna from making their home there. Whatever the reason, I hate it.

That's one hell of a mistake to make! Still, good news is good.

"Have you tried turning the hotel off and then on again?"
(I noticed that error message when I drove by there on Saturday, too!)

As one of the people responsible for moving the con to Wheeling, it was the best of not-great options. The Hyatt Woodfield was too small, the Renaissance was all, "Parties? Oh no, we don't allow those" (and the Schaumburg Convention Center was too expensive). But yeah, the Westin North Shore SUCKED.

I'm not sure. I'll be curious to see if they try to charge me for what was originally stated as something covered by extended warranty.

OK, Trailseeker is a name I haven't seen. Thanks, I'll check it out!

Two of my favorite artists, and such a great version. I'm not sure I'm sold on the whole Covers album but there's some great tracks, like her cover of John Prine's "Hello In There".

I may take you up on that!

Yeah, the numbers would need to be pretty persuasive, and with the bit of poking around I did they were borderline at best. I'd also have to dip into savings for the down payment and...ick.

I still have the charger in the garage from when we owned a Nissan Leaf (2014-2017) π I'm worried less about saving money on gas (with everything going on, plus financing costs it wouldn't be much) and more about keeping the city miles off the Outback so I can hang onto that for as long as possible!
