Coming into the last week to submit for the 2025 Ceræ conference! Anyone on #historysky, #medievalsky, #earlymodernsky or any other -sky who would like to take part is invited to take a look at our cfp. Submissions open til February 28! ceraejournal.com/2024/12/17/2...

It seems to have been a month for #medieval history. I found Dan Jones’ book on Henry V fascinating. Many historians have judged & will come to judge Henry. What was particularly different about Dan Jones’ approach was that over half the book was devoted to his “apprenticeship”. #Medievalsky

I was very busy with my book project and only had time for a short recipe post today: Boring foods on a stick, fifteenth-century style. (Frying, roasting, adding eggs - these guys would understand Glasgow cuisine very well) #medievalsky #culinaryhistory www.culina-vetus.de/2025/02/23/b...

Other highlights at the #britishmuseum on permanent display includes the Lewis Chessmen. I rather like the grumpy face on this king #medievalsky #chess

There were requests for more of the #Norwich bosses: So here is St.John the Evangelist. But the carver clearly had to have eagles explained to him as a bit like a brown seagull, but bigger. So that's what we got: it is even stealing a chip, ah - St. John's scroll. #AncientBluesky #medievalsky

Looks like there's a two year postdoc going in Dublin for a legal historian (and/or historian of law? books?) in Medieval Irish Law on Prof. Fangzhe Qiu's "Fluid texts and scholars’ digests: (re)production of law in medieval Ireland" project, #medievalsky!! www.findapostdoc.com/search/Job-D...

We're looking for interdisciplinary approaches to the theme of POWER & RESISTANCE. #pgstudents and #ECR submit your research to EPOCH: www.epoch-magazine.com/submit #history #academicsky #medievalsky #interdisciplinary #research

Also a good question for #dunnett readers😉

Fantastic example of why cataloguing needs to be an iterative process and why we need to keep revisiting old catalogues and understudied manuscripts. And of course the cherry on top is the Phillipps provenance! #MedievalSky #ManuscriptStudies

A stunning day out yesterday at the Bath Fashion Museum stores. They hold an exceptional collection of 17th-century gloves and other embroidered items. You can really follow a shift from metal thread to ribbons and appreciate the meticulous stitches that gave each glove their shape. #earlymodern

You usually see her in court dress and then, after the husband's death, in her #nuntastic Third Order habit - but here Archduchess Isabella Clara Eugenia shoots at a parrot at the Zavelkerk, #Brussels 1615 (Rijksmuseum)

📢NEW MANY-HEADED MONSTER SERIES📢 Today I introduce 'Visual Culture in #EarlyModern England', a series that celebrates the relaunch of the brilliant 'British Printed Images to 1700' database and showcases historians' use of printed images. 🗃️ #Skystorians manyheadedmonster.com/2025/02/24/a...

Believe it or not, Henry VIII’s wives were not the only women he beheaded - he also executed Elizabeth Barton (c. 1506-34), whose head was impaled on a spike on London Bridge. Why? 1/2

🐍 A remarkable oil painting, Chalice of St John the Evangelist, by Hans Memling, 1470/75. 🎯 His paintings were a hit in #Renaissance Italy & influenced Raphael's #art as well, e.g. the stippled leaves of his trees. 🎬 ideasroadshow.com/raphael/ 🗃️ #arthistory #skystorians #medieval #earlymodern

Kentwell Hall’s #15thcentury Moat House houses a working #brew house, bakehouse, #dairy and stillroom. Few houses of this date still have service buildings surviving let alone in operation so it is a rare chance to see how a manor house supplied its household. #tudor #medievalmonday #earlymodern

Whispering Gallery is on its way to members of the Dorothy Dunnett Society.

This week's #dunnettquote deals with the important question of who was steering.

Having a meal like in Niccolò‘s times? culina vetus (Volker Bach) @culinavetus.bsky.social bsky.app/profile/culi... has a lot of it for #dunnett readers.

@dunnettcentral.bsky.social Some of the reliquaries are quite striking (the gold and silver foot was ?!), and many of the items are in the timeline for Dunnett's work

I'd never heard of this. Magnificent! #medievalsky #earlymusic

It's several stockfish recipes from the 15th century today, including one for floured, pan-fried slices served in a pepper sauce. Stockfish was common, but is rarely treated with this much respect. #culinaryhistory #medievalsky www.culina-vetus.de/2025/02/08/s...
