I work in social media, and it's not practical right now for me to disable my accounts on Meta's platforms. So, I've taken these steps and am also using the Facebook Container Firefox extension. It's better than nothing.

Found a slick Chrome Extension that lets you download your TikTok Likes and Favorites directly to your hard drive. I was going to save my likes, but I have over 150,000. I am more convinced now than ever that not having TikTok is probably a net good thing for mental health.

15 years ago when I first started working in social media, I thought the internet was the best thing humanity ever created. I don't really feel that way anymore, but there's still some really good shit here.

This is a beautiful tribute.

RIP Bob. Thanks for all the laughs.

It’s the day we all hoped would never come. Bob Uecker, the voice of the Brewers for the last 54 years and “Mr. Baseball” to fans around the world, passed away overnight, according to his family and the team. He was 90. Summers in Wisconsin will never be the same.

i post this quote from Justified constantly but it really is some of the best life advice you can get

Today In Unrelated: I've been increasingly addicted to this delicious cover of Miami Vice's "Crokett Theme" by Baco Rhythm & Steel Band. You might know them for their equally amazing cover of PIMP from Anatomy of a Murder. youtu.be/3eexerBbFms?...

The oft-repeated line "You either die a hero or you live long enough to become the villain" is, of course, nihilistic blather. Because sometimes you're maligned and impugned, then you live long enough to have people realize you were fundamentally decent and admirable on an aspirational level. #RIP

Falling down catastrophising rabbit holes but this goober is reminding me to stay anchored to the here and now that I can directly control.

Trans folks held a dance party in the Capitol bathroom to protest the bathroom ban on there.

1/3 The world is *gestures broadly* an intimidatingly chaotic place these days. As I've been working on managing my anxiety in uncertain times, I've been exploring opportunities to volunteer and give back, but also feel good about myself.

Kick off your holiday season on Thanksgiving with a cozy virtual Yule Log. I've curated over 100 Yule Log videos from YouTube. Find them all at www.yulelogsforall.com.

For the @washingtonpost.com travel section, I wrote about the Mars Cheese Castle, which IS a castle and DOES sell cheese but is located on the side of the highway in Wisconsin, not on Mars.

I started a podcast about movies with two friends. Our 5th(!) episode dropped today (with new ones every other week). This episode's theme was my pick, "Lesser Known Heroes of the 90s," and we tackled The Phantom, The Shadow & Darkman. Listen to Triple Take Cinema wherever you get your podcasts.

Happy Circulatory System Walking Through The Kitchen Day to those who celebrate.

Trying to step away from the social networks that I obsessively refresh for political commentary for a bit. That means swearing off X and this place, too, for the time being. I'll still be on Facebook and Instagram, feverishly training the algorithms to serve me 24/7 dog photos. www.dustinzick.com

Biggest perk to this weird warm spell has been getting all of my pre-winter outdoor projects done in shorts and sandals.

Maggie Smith passed… *checks watch* …27 days ago. These TikTok notifications are really on point.

I know Superbad was my generation's geeky/loser-friends-coming-of-age-at-the-end-of-high-school movie, but this is so much better. // A ★★★★ review of Booksmart (2019)

(1/2) What's your favorite #streaming service for tv/film. My wife and I have more subscriptions than we want, and are getting real close to moving to a hot-potato style subscription move where we just subscribe for a month at a time to binge shows that we're interested in and then cancel.

To me, this feels very "we have AI, but we don't know what to do with it". Who is asking for this? Who wants this from a user standpoint?

"...She’ll make about $4.50 per day, or about 85 cents an hour — a tiny fraction of the state’s $15 hourly minimum wage. Pathways can pay Castellanos and her co-workers that because they have disabilities." https://wapo.st/3ZbMj6i

Holy shit, what is it with this guy? Why is he so incredibly bizarre and obsessed with dead animals?

I'm quite excited this remake is seeing the light of day finally. #StephenKing #SalemsLot

Ah yes, the question everybody has been asking for years: What is Tarantino's opinion on Toy Story 4?
