I got a membership earlier this year. Support local news in DC! @51st.news was founded after WAMU gutted DCist. Help them reach their membership/fundraising goal--DC is going to face so many challenges in the next few years, and we need good local reporting to be prepared!

There's a new essay by Douglas McRae taking a look at the development of Latin American urban history, as reflected in the pages of The Americas. It's a great teaching tool, and it is Open Access: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Officially published in The Americas 82:1…my essay “Latin American Cities: A Special Teaching and Research Collection for The Americas” Read and share! I wrote it to increase engagement with long term trends in LatAm urban history and encourage further research. Enjoy! doi.org/10.1017/tam....

The Elephant Man (dir. David Lynch, 1980)

Excited to share FirstView of my latest publication: "Latin American Cities: A Special Teaching and Research Collection for the Americas" doi.org/10.1017/tam.... In this essay, I looked back at how contributors to TAM have studied cities and urban life over the journal's decades-long run. Enjoy!

Remember how at one point people started calling ISIS “Daesh”? We need to find a similar alternate name for “DOGE”

The anecdote in the first two paragraphs...imagine if this happened at one of your first conference presentations... www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Saving this for next time I teach Urban Environmental History of Water…

Anybody have suggestions for student-run anthro/geography journals that would publish undergrad work? A former student of mine wants to publish a paper on water infrastructure+public space in Medellín that they wrote for my urban water history course last spring. Thanks!

Does anyone know the story behind the seemingly overnight appearance of Colombian golden berries (uchuva/aguaymanto) in North American supermarkets?

I'm officially deactivated on X, will try this for now!

I find this photo (used on the cover of Ariel De La Fuente's Children of Facundo) to be fascinating. A photo of gaucho montoneros (followers of "Chacho" Peñaloza) captured in 1863, taken at the request of D.F. Sarmiento, then-governor of San Juan, Argentina.

Organizing your research can be spooky, but it doesn't have to be scary! IMG_666? Nevermore! Tropy helps you describe and annotate those mysterious photos you took in the archive Finally--did you know that Tropy has a Halloween "Easter egg"? Check your sublists...if you dare!!! www.tropy.org

I'm looking forward to joining the editorial board of @TAMquarterly this year as a Vault Associate. I'll be curating a special historiographical issue on Latin American cities, contributing to this fine teaching/research initiative: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
