PROTIP: did you know the folding desk in hotel rooms can also be used for ironing your clothes?

Roll on the day when I have enough control of my own data that I can build an app that scans my payments, detects any time I buy a banana, and reminds me an hour later that I bought a banana. 🍌

"....if I did that they'd lock me in Broadmoor, and I'd be stuck inside and people would stare at me through a tiny window." "Just like doing training on Zoom, then" "No, Broadmoor would be way better than online training. I'd get eye contact, and once in a while somebody might ask me a question."

In which I get two emails, one confirming a restaurant reservation for a meal we had already eaten the previous day, and the other telling me that the thing HMRC want to tell me isn't actually ready yet. dylanbeattie.net/2025/06/16/w...

“You’ve all heard of rubber ducking? Where you get stuck so you try explaining the problem to the rubber duck on your desk? Well, now we’ve got Copilot, the duck talks back!” - quote of the week from @jayharris.com’s session at DevSum.

A lady is standing at the front of my bus loudly lecturing the other passengers about how much Jesus loves them… Lady, if Jesus really loved you, he wouldn’t let you leave the house wearing those white Crocs.

It’ll be awesome in about 500 years when history gets all messed up enough that people seriously debate whether King Arthur had a space shuttle.

Ah, airport O’Leary’s… There are few things quite so culturally authentic as the Hungarian airport edition of a Scandinavian franchise based on a fictional Boston Irish sports bar, but for that little extra touch of authenticity, I have ordered some Mexican food.

This is incredible and delightful.

Me: they’re just letters, only letters, the letters can’t hurt me, they’re just letters, letters are friends, letters can’t hurt me Hungarian Scrabble: WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW, ENGLISH?

You think casing variable names is hard? Imagine if Blaise Pascal was famous for his excellent camel kebabs.

A Midsummer Night’s Dreamcast, anybody?

YES!

Sveltia CMS is very awesome. Give ‘em a follow. Go on.

I am watching @dylanbeatt.ie's excellent talk on creating the Rockstar programming language (www.youtube.com/watch?v=69qf...) as a distraction from studying for a CS exam. The exam is on the design and implementation of programming languages. I have not thought this plan through

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic job! When I saw the course was over 9 hours, I wondered what you would talk about for that long. Now it feels like 18 hours got packed into a 9 hour course. I didn't realize how much I didn't know about email. Thanks for putting this together.” dometrain.com/course/from-...

“Thank you for using your phone on the EE mobile network recently.” I have used my phone on the EE network every single day since the EE network took over from Orange in 2010. But I guess it’s nice to be appreciated?

Getting old would be a lot more fun if I had a thing that played the Transformers noise every time I had to stand up after being sat down for a bit.

That was a lot of fun! And whoever handed out all the glow sticks to the audience? Genius.

Why call it Capybaras when "Guinea Bigs" was an option?

Three days into helping my partner redecorate her new flat and I promise I will never refer to software development as “hard work” ever again. And the legacy… my word. We found the remains of at least four old phone lines that at some point were just cut off and painted over…

Right at the end of the podcast today, @surlydev.bsky.social mentioned they liked how the @ldnug.org logo was based on the London Underground. Which made me go YAY! because I designed it and I love it, and it's nice when people notice stuff. 🤠 So I made a whole page all about it: ldnug.org/assets
