I write about the semiconductor industry for CRN from the lovely state of Maine. But I post here about a lot of other things, like video games, dad stuff, retro PCs, politics, music and TV shows.

Monolith has a 30+ year legacy as a studio. Blood. NOLF. AVP2. F.E.A.R. Condemned. Shadow of Mordor. Such a loss.

Though the studio's shutdown and WB's mismanagement are the biggest sources of outrage, I do find myself irrationally mad about this fact.

It is a travesty that Monolith's Nemesis system has been locked behind a patent throughout all of this, likely preventing most game designers outside WB from experimenting with and iterating on the idea. It was such a rad concept in Shadows of Mordor.

Which means if the Call of Duty app has to download a 36GB update for multiplayer stuff, I can't play the single-player campaign until it's been downloaded. It also means that the single-player campaign doesn't work with PS5's quick resume feature since it always disconnects when I stop playing.
