I wonder why fish sorta got the "Yellow Winged Blackbird" treatment instead of "<Human Name>'s Shark." I'm guessing because fishermen DGAF about the aristocracy

I think Vernor Vinge, rest his soul, somehow used his time travel wizard brain when he wrote Rainbows End.
It's not a perfect psychohistory (self-driving cars obviously proved too hard), but so much of it is eerily (because it's set in 2025) mirrored in modern society

I use Copilot exclusively as an inline complete. I've tried more and it's more work than doing it myself
That said, I largely agree with you from a technical view, but from a "it's turning people's brains off" view I'm much more worried. e.g. Sarah Jeong's "existential threat to culture" line

I'm absolutely going to comment but... it's a little unclear what's changing, which of the documents on this page (www.portland.gov/charter-code...) are the new or old, and even in that it's not really clear what part of either is giving them that ability.
Would be nice to speak to it directly

the thing about arguing for remote work is that you're arguing with people whose opening position is "i can only work with people if i can touch them"
and somehow "i don't need a two hour commute to open a laptop" is completely left field

For what it's worth "mood disorders, including depression" is (currently) on the list of conditions the CDC says increase your risk and would make you eligible for a booster
That doesn't help everyone but at least we can probably still get ours

It's not, and it's a GORGEOUS image btw, but there are still trees in all but the deepest rust coated portion which is honestly pretty impressive

Man, something about this just screams late 90's early 00's! I can't quite place what it reminds me of (Word Rescue maybe? The portraits at least) but I'm basking in the nostalgia all the same

I'd agree with you except Benn Jordan is a musician himself, and recently made a video about research into poisoning audio to combat AI illegally training on it e.g. making it sound like nonsense, making it incorrectly categorized, etc. It's a great watch

I hope it'll become a lot more common for companies to pay artists for the use of their work/likeness
@bennjordan.bsky.social is involved with (cofounded?) www.voice-swap.ai which does just that, giving artists creative authority of the generated audio and a platform to license their voice

Meanwhile, AI was a huge theme at some large lawyer conference in NYC... Which. like. yikes.
From Business Insider: "I spent 11 hours at a legal tech conference, and the takeaway was clear: 'Lawyers need to wake up' and use AI" archive.is/rg84W

Here's the short version of the script. You can also add "I want a lawyer" and "I do not consent to any searches" but the most important part of the script is to invoke the 5th.
If you're press/media in CA you can invoke your 1st too.
And don't say "I want a lawyer, dawg" 😂 Keep it simple.

For comparison, NBC's headline is "Newark mayor arrested during congressional visit to NJ ICE facility" which is completely factual and is not copaganda.

Because statements made by a cop who is the direct tool of a dictator are totally unbiased. You know better and so does the AP.
