I’d love to hear about folks volunteerism right now: what are your goals? Where are you showing up? Volunteering is a great way to connect with new people and be of service to your neighbors and community. 💙

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

NPR host Adrian Ma's girlfriend, Kiah Duggins, was aboard the American Airlines flight that crashed into the Potomac River. He spoke to NPR about that night and about his late girlfriend.

85% of HUD disaster recovery staff. This will make recovery exponentially more difficult. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/20/c...

Did a general summary of the illegal behavior of Cameron Hamilton at FEMA this week if you’re looking for a run down. I know this is happening across the federal government but I think the shelter grant program is a clear example of how we are in a constitutional crisis. www.tiktok.com/t/ZT2AhJ2LK/

This is the kind of post-disaster failures we need to be working to fix, not this bullshit the Trump administration is doing. www.bpr.org/bpr-news/202...

Just finished a meeting on impacts of Trump Administration policies in disaster research and emergency management and the mood out there among the people who try to keep us all safe is GRIM. But also, frankly speaking, pretty determined. Join DRJ to learn more! www.disasterresearchersforjustice.com

The intentional destruction of the disaster research & response institutions in this country is hurting people who devote their lives to saving lives. A great journalist should bring this disaster-in-the-making into the light. @maddow.msnbc.com @jeffsharlet.bsky.social @chrislhayes.bsky.social

Want to see advertisers lose MILLIONS this Sunday? A record-setting low for viewers during the Super Bowl would do that. Money talks and bullshit walks.

After 11 years, my time at HuffPost is coming to an end tomorrow. Last week, I learned HuffPost would be ending its dedicated coverage of energy and climate change. So, I took a buyout.

Reminder that Project 2025 called for an end to all FEMA grant programs. FEMA grants are the primary mechanism for federally funded disaster mitigation and preparedness. Every single community has benefited from this funding. It benefits the economy and national security.

I am really frustrated that the press is discussing the destruction of USAID as something that has happened rather than an illegal action that will likely be undone in two weeks when courts tell the world that it was illegal.

Public service is not a “lower productivity” endeavor. It is the foundation of our democracy, and its value is incalculable. #holdtheline #forkoff

To our friends who are on “the lists.” Our hearts are breaking. You are the young, fresh, energetic, innovative, dedicated souls that this agency needs so badly. Please know, you are all essential. Collect all employee docs: eOPF, benefeds, mypay, PMAS. Get a reason IN WRITING for termination.

The administration's hack job on the civil service is totally devoid of any strategic plans to understand systematic inefficiencies. They are banking on sweeping resignations and layoffs that will lead to collapse of key infrastructure. This will hurt the American people.

Now that DOGE has entered FEMA, I’d like to say something about the importance of alerts and warnings. FEMA has a group called IPAWS, the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, which is responsible for making sure you get warnings though all sorts of devices, basically for free. 1/

Everything is shit but I’m growing Blue Oyster mushrooms in a bucket for the first time and they just started pinning and I’m so excited.

Here's another example of something the federal government funds (and you might not know about) that is needed by emergency managers to effectively do their jobs.

How are there not 5000 stories about how he just went to North Carolina to promise them recovery funding and literally 72 hours later tried to shutdown the entire federal disaster relief apparatus?!?!?

Ahead of an expected enforcement action in Aurora, Colorado, Buckley Space Force Base in that city is being readied to house people detained on immigration violation charges. via @coloradopublic.bsky.social

John Barrasso (R-WY) NIH funding: $12M, 265 jobs. Rural areas are likely to be most affected by HHS cuts. No for profit hospital will build in deep rural areas. That is where federal health clinics and the Public Health Service comes in.

If you're a local/state emergency manager who is able and willing to speak on the record to journalists about *gestures around* can you send me a message so I can connect you?

Roughly two million federal employees got emails today titled "Fork in the Road" which lays out the option to stay (with ominous undertones of "maybe we'll fire you anyways") or resign and be paid through September. This move would crush institutional knowledge and end programs permanently.

We highly advised for all federal employees not to respond to or open OPM emails. Our coalition will be advised on additional precautions. Reports of a hostile takeover at OPM have been circulating. More details will be released in the future. www.404media.co/opm-memos-to...

Read please.

this is a public service announcement that i will continue to be full of both joy and rage in equal measure thank you for your time

I notice that many of the “emergency management isn’t political” crowd are real quiet now that they see they’re at risk of being politicked out of a job.

Literally everything is a conspiracy if you don't understand how anything works

Remember the power of community. Find your networks. Find where you can be a helper 💙 #hurricanehelene #rivercleanuo

very excited to see what happens when you make a deeply compromised addict the leader of the department of defense and subordinate to a madman

Now is not the time for your FEMA hot takes! This isn’t a thought experiment. Peoples lives and livelihoods are at risk. Not to mention the national security implications of what is being suggested.

Sending strength and good thoughts to all the FEMA employees out there. Y'all deal with some of the toughest issues and bad situations, and do critical work. I know you got into it to help people. You don't deserve the vitriol and rhetoric attempting to devalue you and your work.

His reference about passing emergency management off to the states is straight out of Project 2025. www.disaster-ology.com/blog/2024/12...

Here are some nice mushrooms

Another example taken straight out of project 2025 for the absolute fools who said it wouldn’t be implemented.
