I

Sigh.

As a United States Senator advocates using military violence to suppress protestors, we face a crucial First Amendment question: will anyone try to use cancel culture against the editor who ran the call for violence? Greg Lukianoff, tomorrow in the NYT www.wsj.com/opinion/send...

you'd think the end of all federal consumer protection, public safety enforcement, and corporate oversight would be bigger news outside of a handful of outlets like propublica, the media couldn't care less

"Hundreds gathered outside the Butler County Jail in Hamilton on Sunday to protest the recent wave of arrests..." if you'd told kid me that Butler County Ohio would get in the news for this I would not have believed you. beautiful to see www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/p...

it really speaks to how trump does not see himself as a steward of the white house or the presidency but as its owner. he will do with it as he pleases.

This week, Trump abused his power as commander-in-chief to send troops into LA and will abuse it again by hijacking the army's birthday and turning into a celebration of himself and the authoritarian state he is trying to create. My latest.

President Trump's plans to use the military to quell protests "should raise a bright red flag for anyone concerned with the future of American democracy," @lizagoitein.bsky.social writes.

Let me remind you: The senate passed bipartisan immigration reform in 2024. Trump panicked and ordered Mike Johnson not to bring it to the House floor. He feared its passage would help Biden win. Johnson complied. Then, Trump made immigration a major campaign issue and won. And here we are.

Newsom: This is a national order. We’re talking about you and your state, your own backyard, all depending on the whim of a president who’s unhinged. Depending on how he’s feeling on a particular day, or who’s offended him because he didn’t like what they said on a Fox News clip.

I just filed an emergency motion in court to immediately block the ongoing and unnecessary militarization of Los Angeles. The federal government is turning the military against American citizens. This is unprecedented and threatens the very core of our democracy.

Kamala Harris in October: “[Trump] considers any American who doesn’t support him or bend to his will to be an enemy to our country, and further, he says that as commander-in-chief, he would use our military to go after them.”

$134 million for an authoritarian crackdown on the streets of Los Angeles, trillions in tax cuts for the richest among us, and this. Priorities I guess

BREAKING: Gov. Newsom is asking for a restraining order on Trump/Hegseth's use of the military in Los Angeles, saying they are preparing to go on immigration raids with ICE. He wants a ruling within two hours. "They must be stopped immediately." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

It's just a violent military crackdown on peaceful protestors, not something serious like a magazine editor getting fired for being bad at editing.

Trump's use of the military in LA is illegal—he said so himself. He wants violence and escalation, and doesn't care who gets hurt. He loves to emulate authoritarians, and the way he's doing that now is very dangerous. Everyone who cares about the rule of law should oppose it.

As marines descend on LA, as Trump moves closer and closer to martial law, it will be tempting to victim-blame. To equivocate. To find some reason the protesters deserve what’s coming. They don’t.

So what is Trump/Russia? (Here’s what it’s not: a “hoax.”)

"Trump desperately wants to be that hero, someone history can never forget. He's currently remembered as a failure president, our very worst. He's twice impeached. He's a convicted felon. But he wants to be a great man, a hero. He wants to be the Great Man of American history, never forgotten."
