Forcing people to work for no pay is very on brand for the president. The thousands of National Guardsmen President Trump sent to Los Angeles in an authoritarian power play are working for free. https://trib.al/QeaTX40

SEN. PADILLA: “Saying I lunged is a lie, but that’s par for the course for this administration… I was behind the cameras listening, and at a certain point hearing Noem say they had to rescue LA from the Governor and Mayor was too much to take. So I raise my voice to ask a question.”

I think all they’ve really managed to do this week is encourage more people to turn out for the No Kings protests. Being underwater on every issue before July is pretty impressive.

The silence of our military leaders is deafening.

Are these FBI, Secret Service or Homeland Security agents or a combination? I'd like to know b/c I'd like the agencies responsible to be held accountable for this.

A group of us have arrived on the Senate floor to challenge our colleagues - on both sides of the aside - to rise to this moment and jointly condemn what has happened to Sen. Padilla. Yes we still need to collect the full facts, but this appears to be a defining moment for the country.

Put this on a billboard.

The forcible removal of @padilla.senate.gov from a public press conference accelerates Trump’s authoritarian power grab. The silence from Republicans is deafening. Via @lujan.senate.gov

Meanwhile in fascist occupied California… We put up with this much longer and we’ll end up like the #Gorn in #Andor ✨ #FreeTheBear

I hate the “he’s such a nice guy” response to something like the Senator Alex Padilla situation, because someone shouldn’t have to be a nice guy to not be treated the way he was. But I do want to say, as someone who has known him since 2009, he is one of the most decent and kind people I know.

"Trump has gone farther than any other politician in the tenor and content of his comments, overtly treating events with troops in the audience as campaign rallies, and overtly and directly criticizing his opponents,"

Senator Padilla’s office sends me this video of his take-down and detention at Sec. Noem’s press conference in L.A.

Senator Alex Padilla of California will be on Ari Melber’s The Beat this hour on MSNBC interviewed by Jason Soboroff.

Are we really fucking doing this. Had nothing happened to Senator Padilla at all, what she was describing is a federal takeover of a major city by military force with no specified end-date, with no legal authority. Do not let the fascists talk their way out of that.

Not sure how to say this, but even if Padilla hadn’t identified himself (which he did), throwing someone to the ground and cuffing them is a wildly disproportionate and fascist way of dealing with a press conference interruption

Court hearing on California's request for a temporary restraining order regarding Trump's deployment of the military in Los Angeles just ended. Judge Breyer says he expects to have an order out today. To assist his consideration, we filed the below late last night.

NDLON statement on the forcible removal and handcuffing of Senator Padilla ndlon.org/daylaborersc...

Florida sheriffs doing Florida sheriff things.

Which would you describe as “actions,” trying to ask a question, or being wrestled to the floor and cuffed?

Not Walmart taking a leadership role, this... definitely was not on my bingo card!!!

Trump’s $45 million birthday parade with its tanks and helicopters is an authoritarian ego trip. But the real show of force this weekend won't take place in D.C., it’ll happen in the streets as protesters gather nationwide to declare "No Kings in America!"

This tyrannical "liberate" horseshit is arguably as bad as what she did to Sen. Padilla.

"On Wednesday, LA city councilor Hugo Soto-Martinez said in a video posted to Instagram that ICE had shown up at a confidential domestic violence shelter, apparently in search of one person who was not present." www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

House Republicans just voted to cut off public radio broadcasts, defund your local PBS station, and rip away lifesaving aid and bipartisan investments to advance U.S. interests around the world. I'll be doing everything I can to defeat this bill as it comes to the Senate.

Kristi Noem must resign. She has deported a four year old with cancer, detained a U.S. marshal, and arrested two members of Congress. She’s lost the confidence of the American people. ICE must stop terrorizing our communities.

Just so we're all clear: It's not a coincidence that the first senator they've used physical force against is Sen. Alex Padilla, a Latino man representing California.

Trump’s "big beautiful" energy plan will burn your wallet

We are marching to Senator Thune’s office. There must be accountability for the detainment of a Senator. This is not normal.

As the videotapes clearly show, Noem is lying. Padilla is clearly identifying himself as a senator before he he is thrown to the ground and handcuffed. www.mediaite.com/media/news/p...

If that’s what they do to a United States Senator with a question, imagine what they can do to any American that dares to speak up. We will hold this administration accountable.

Governor JB Pritzker said to Rep. Mary Miller: "I am not going to be lectured to by somebody who extols the virtue of Hitler." Finally, someone says it to their faces.

Yes. According to Army protocol, congressional staff are VIP Code 5, with a rank equivalent to a two-star general/admiral. Members of Congress are of course significantly higher. I have never seen USCP, FPS, or any other federal LEO treat any Member with anywhere near this disrespect and violence.

Padilla identified himself as a US Senator as soon as a federal agent started to manhandle him. And come on, if it's "oh we didn't know"--never would have happened to a white person who IDed themselves as a Senator

Sen. Alex Padilla, who was just forcibly removed from a DHS press conference, is the ranking member of Judiciary’s subcommittee on immigration, citizenship, and border safety, which has “oversight of federal agencies with citizenship, asylum, refugee, and immigration enforcement responsibilities.”

Move to hold the agents who assaulted a sitting senator in contempt of Congress. Call for articles of impeachment against Noem. Stop working on crypto legislation. Demonstrate the stakes of what is happening in LA with your actions.

Reminder that seven Democratic senators voted to confirm Kristi Noem and six Dem senators declined to vote either way. She was confirmed, 59-34. The good faith experiment is clearly over, and we need the Democratic senators who didn't stand against her nomination to be loud as hell right now.

It’s not illegal for a United States Senator to go to a public press conference and ask questions about your constituents safety. It's our job.

In Donald Trump's America, if you say "I am Senator Alex Padilla, I have questions for the Secretary," you get thrown to the floor and handcuffed.

In light of what has happened to Senator Padilla and Congresswoman McIver, I want everyone to know that we are not alone. 16 other countries are joining the #NoKings protests in solidarity with us. This is now a global action. www.nokings.org?SQF_SOURCE=d...

Nothing like Kristi Noem dismissing Padilla as “political theater.”

Booker: He was made to kneel before the authority of the executive… They treated a member of the United States senate violently after he identified himself, dragged him out of a room, threw him upon the ground, and put him in handcuffs

If you're not bringing Articles of Impeachment to remove Noem, or you're not going to grind the Senate completely to a halt, then really, don't bother. We don't need speeches.

A few key points: - Senator Padilla is the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety - He identified himself as a Senator - Right before this happened Noem literally said she was there to liberate Los Angeles from its elected leadership
