Washington’s new law – the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act – helps make salon products safer for stylists and clients. The law keeps many toxic chemicals out of cosmetics made, sold, or distributed in Washington.

Update- Cleanup crews are actively working on-site. Current estimates indicate that 2,000 to 2,500 gallons of fuel spilled into the median. There are no reported impacts to water or wildlife.

We are responding to reports of a gas spill from a tanker truck accident on EB I-90, between MP 130 and 131, west of Vantage. The tanker's est. capacity is 4,200 gal, but the spill amount is unknown. A coordinated response is underway to manage impacts. We'll provide updates when available.

We’re on day 3 of cleanup at the Black River in Renton after a cooking oil spill behind a pump station, similar to an August 2023 spill. No wildlife impacts yet, but the past spill killed a blue heron. Proper disposal is critical. If you know who is responsible, call 1-800-OILS-911.

A new report from the Department of Ecology digs into greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 and 2021 – finding that Washington met its 2020 legal limit on greenhouse gas emissions before partially rebounding the following year.
