NEH introduces new prohibited categories to comply with executive orders. This is an infringement of academic freedom plain and simple, and also nonsense: what is โ€œdiscriminatory equity ideologyโ€

Feeling very grateful to the student who wrote LOL in the margins next to my (idiotic and goofy) joke in their reading quiz. Having my sense of humor validated like that is almost as good as the students who nod along during lecture.

Anyone with even a cursory high school civics class knows this is not a thing. Sound the alarm to all that this is not how the American political system created by the Constitution works. Saying "the law/nothing matters" is surrender & I'm not willing to give up. Way too early for that.

It was such a joy to take part in this forum about Kathryn's amazing book.

Flagging #SHAFR2025 Second Book Workshop to take place the day before the conference begins in Arlington. I participated years ago and still go back to those notes! Now honored to lead the Women in SHAFR Committee organizing it. Consider applying! shafr.memberclicks.net/index.php?op...

We're about to learn whether a Supreme Court that's bent over backward to protect the religious liberty of worshippers who sought to gather together to sing aloud in a pandemic will be solicitous of people of faith whose conviction requires them to minister to, shelter, pray alongside the stranger

A bit of light in these dark days. This is my church and I can't even tell you how beautiful that day was when we reaffirmed Zach's baptism with his chosen name. I hope these lines from Zach's mom find the people who need to hear them. pcusa.org/news-storyte...

A real bright spot this week: celebrating the launch of the 10th volume of MSUโ€™s The Undergraduate Historian! Congratulations to the editors and authors!

Professional historians survey the historical record and draw conclusions out of the sum total of evidence they survey. In sharp contrast, "originalists" [sic] start with a conclusion they want to justify and then scour the historical record to find some way to prop that up.

The @susih.bsky.social has endorsed this statement. ๐Ÿ—ƒ๏ธ #skystorians @oah.org

Nothing says Saturday morning after grades are in like knitting on the couch by the Christmas tree with a great cup of coffee and a new episode of Shetland. (Fabulous sweaters in this episode, for those who watch for that kind of thing)
