This is what we needed to hear, but what our patients and this profession need now is action. When we sit down with ministers in a few weeks we need to talk timetables.

I’m set to attend @DentalShowcase next week. I know NHS colleagues have so many questions, and to date have had precious few answers. An important opportunity.

This two-tier approach to primary care is beyond the pale: 📈A reckless Budget hit every part of primary care with huge new overheads. 🩺GPs are now getting the support they need. 🚍But tens of thousands of other practitioners have been thrown under a bus. 👉 www.bda.org/media-centre...

Great news for dentists qualified overseas who are working for registration with GDC @thebda.bsky.social www.bda.org/advice/overs...

🧑‍🧑‍🧒Calling all parents! 🦷It’s the number one reason for hospital admissions among young children. ✂️And political choices made in Westminster have left millions with no options. 📕Share your story 👇 www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

NHS Dentists don’t go on strike we just quietly shift the balance of our work. With continually rising costs, & huge professional fees the only option is to shift business focus towards private care. Increased litigation risk & treatment complexities adds to the move away from NHS dentistry.

We live in a wealthy 21st century nation. Health ministers UK-wide have a moral responsibility to ensure no patient ends up like this for want of basic care.

A registrant as GDC Chair would send the strongest possible signal to every dental team member that our regulator has turned the page.

🦷A museum has asked a man who pulled out his own tooth with pliers to put a copy on display. 🏛️The exhibition should be called ‘21st CENTURY BRITAIN’ 🇬🇧This is a source of national shame and it’s why Government needs to go further and faster on reform👉 www.bda.org/news-and-opi...

Let’s hope it’s not too late 8 months delay on something that could have happened last July

Congratulations @vicderbyshire.bsky.social and so well deserved. You’ve delivered masterclass after masterclass in how to hold politicians and those in power to account. You are one of the finest journalists we have in this country 👏

“The current contract really under-incentivises dentists to work on the NHS,” says Kellie Downie. “Because often the payments do not match the level of care we provide.” Why failed contracts and underfunding require emergency treatment from Government. 👉 www.bda.org/news-and-opi...

Today NHS dentistry takes a small step.    What we urgently need now is a giant leap.   Action proportionate to the scale of the crisis millions still face.   👉 https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/700-000-urgent-appointments-coming-now-restore-care-to-millions/

Today the Government rolls out its pledge of 700,000 new urgent dental appointments. It’s progress, but the future for NHS dentistry remains bleak unless Ministers go further and faster. 👉 https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/700-000-urgent-appointments-coming-now-restore-care-to-millions/

It’s great to see progress now being made on this but as @thebda.bsky.social point out it amounts to a dentist seeing little over 2 extra urgent cases a month & no new money behind it. 14 years of Tory failure has left 13 million people unable to dental access care

Progress, but let’s put it in proportion… Without fundamental reform and sustainable funding a service millions depend on won’t have a future. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/02...

📰Front page news. NHS dentistry had ceased to exist for families across Yorkshire long before Covid struck. Rachel Reeve’s constituents have lived with these problems for years. Her coming spending review will either sink or save this service. 👉 www.bda.org/news-and-opi...

This is the direct result of attitudes at @hmtreasury towards NHS dentistry. As I told @BBCr4today on Saturday, the coming Spending Review will sink or save this service. Does @RachelReevesMP want to play the role of saviour or executioner?

“It could be the final nail in the coffin,” warns Russell Gidney Negotiations on a contract that could save NHS dentistry in Wales have been cut short. Welsh Government spin is failing both this profession and the millions we treat. https://bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/wales-calling-out-the-spin/

“If nurses or doctors were expected to pay out of their own pockets for NHS treatment hospitals would collapse," says @eddiecrouch.bsky.social “We have a Government that expects dentists to do that.” “Rachel Reeves doesn’t want to go down as the Chancellor who killed NHS dentistry.”

“Voters can’t comprehend why Ministers can’t fix a simple problem,” says @shivparbary.bsky.social “That people in pain can’t get the care they need.” “The Spending Review will sink or save NHS dentistry, and whichever way she goes the Chancellor will have to own it.” www.lbc.co.uk/opinion/view...

NHS dentistry has ceased to exist for millions. A toxic mix of austerity and failed contracts has fuelled this crisis. We now have health professionals delivering NHS care at a loss. Why the Treasury is the No.1 barrier to saving this service. 👇 www.bda.org/news-and-opi...

Ahead of the Public Accounts Committee www.theguardian.com/society/2025... @thebda.bsky.social

Today MPs will be holding top health officials to account for the state of NHS dentistry. We set out clear evidence on how the Treasury is the key roadblock to reform. Saving this service is impossible without sustainable funding 👉 www.bda.org/media-centre...

Thank you Peter your support is most welcome and appreciated @thebda.bsky.social

The brilliant @eddiecrouch.bsky.social, Chair of the British Dental Association is now on BlueSky. He is fighting to save NHS dentistry for all of us. Please do support him by giving him a follow

“This oral health gap was made in Westminster, with children paying the price for official failure to take dentistry seriously,” says @eddiecrouch.bsky.social “A new Government calls this ‘Dickensian’, but it will take deeds not words to turn this around.” www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

Thanks @helenmorganlibdem.bsky.social Here’s a shopping list of Labour manifesto pledges: 🦷700k urgent appointments 🪥Supervised brushing in schools 📑Reforming a broken contract. Decent policies. But we’re yet to see any meaningful progress on any of them.

Congratulations @ashleydalton.bsky.social Keen to pick up on making the shift from treatment to prevention a reality. Supervised tooth brushing is a tried and tested formula - that we need to see delivered at scale. And there’s lots more govt can do to make sugar the new tobacco.

Today dentists descended on London. 🇬🇧From all four UK nations. 🦷From all fields of practice To tell our pay review body that flatlining pay and the soaring costs of delivering NHS care cannot be decoupled. Without a fair deal services millions depend on won't have a future.

Last week I was pleased to host a parliamentary drop-in with the @oha-updates.bsky.social to bring together health charities, royal colleges & professionals. We had important discussions on tackling obesity, improving diets & ensuring better access to healthy food. Thanks to all who attended! 🍎

Congratulations @AshleyDaltonmp.bluesky.social Keen to pick up on making the shift from treatment to prevention a reality. Supervised tooth brushing is a tried and tested formula - that we need to see delivered at scale. And there’s lots more govt can do to make sugar the new tobacco.

If you are one of the 13 million people now struggling to access NHS dental care share this jaw dropping report & join me & the @thebda.bsky.social in asking @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social where the governments promised plan to fix NHS dentistry is?

Whether it's dentists, GPs, pharmacists - too often it's too hard to get the care you need in Shropshire. This week I met leaders from across primary care to discuss what support they need to help patients and reduce pressure on our hospitals. Patients deserve much better.

“Wes Streeting says he wants to take the NHS ‘back to basics’,” says @shawncharlwood.bsky.social “Ending scenes that belong outside bakeries in the Soviet bloc would be a good start.” “Making promises won’t restore access to millions.” “Only action will.” 👇 www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...

An important message to Government on my final day as Chair of @thebda.bsky.social GDPC.

Today we have the first meeting of newly elected General Dental Practice Committee @thebda.bsky.social The dental profession repeatedly invest time & effort, share our insights - to make NHS Dentistry work. Successive governments have failed to act. We all hoped this time it would be different.

A year ago Wes Streeting told patients queuing outside a dental practice in Bristol that “ultimately it's up to politicians to fix this crisis.” This morning people began queuing again before 7am to get on the books. Promises won't fix this. Action will. Our statement: www.bda.org/media-centre...

Thanks @peterstefanovic.bsky.social A timely reminder for Ministers that the campaign to save this service is about more than even the health of the nation. It is about social justice. And the political choices that have left millions with no options.

“It makes me so angry” says Minister for Prevention Andrew @gwynnemp.bsky.social Tooth decay is preventable. But community dentist Giten Dabhi has extracted 1000s of children’s teeth. There’s nothing inevitable about this. Tried-and-tested programmes can turn this around.

Dental Foundation Training practices have faced a decade of savage cuts. We've secured an increase in service costs payments from £64,164 to £65,244 per year - the first hike since 2014. It's a first step - these training practices need proper support 👉 bda.org/news-and-opi...

Proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with primary care colleagues today. It's the front door to our NHS. And it's broken. Govt says it wants to shift the focus from hospital to community. Dentists, GPs, Opticians, Optoms, Pharmacists & Audiologists are ready to deliver it.

🦷'British Teeth' are a total myth. Academics have found Americans of working age are missing more teeth. Decent care for the many beats 'Hollywood Smiles' for the few. But decades of progress is at risk unless Government promises on prevention and NHS dentistry are kept.

“If you’re poor you’re much more likely to have unhealthy teeth.” Thanks to Nick Marshall, the newest member of @theBDA board for doing his first live interview. @wesstreeting and @SKinnock have need to protect these hard-won gains.

Nice to meet Guildford MP @zoefranklinld.bsky.social in Parliament today to talk about problems with access to NHS dentists. Dentistry and other primary care services are the front door to the NHS. The Government can’t afford to continue to treat them as second rate. @thebda.bsky.social

This new PAC inquiry on ‘Fixing NHS dentistry’ couldn’t be more timely. In 2023 the Health and Social Care Committee provided an instruction manual to save this service. What’s remained missing to date is the sustainable funding to deliver it👇 committees.parliament.uk/work/8828/fi...

Good to finally meet Lib Dem Primary Care Spokesperson @jessbrownfullermp.bsky.social this afternoon. The crisis in access to NHS dentistry is showing no signs of easing. We look forward to working together to ensure NHS dentistry emains a priority for this government. @thebda.bsky.social

Lovely to catch up with @peterprinsleymp.bsky.social today. Patients across the country were promised 700,000 extra urgent Dental appointments back in July. They're still waiting. @thebda.bsky.social
