CONCLAVE is sturdy "airport novel" cinema. That's a film genre we could use more of, not less of, if only because this sort of middlebrow story should be told in a couple of mildly entertaining hours rather than dragged out into twelve-episode streaming fluff.

Actually quite enjoyed this. Sort of a Taishô period Jules et Jim between actress Hasegawa Yasuko, poet Nakahara Chuya, and critic Kobayashi Hideo. Almost comically overwrought in places, it manages to hold on to its internal logic by having its characters be overly dramatic personalities.
