When Gene Hackman was developing his hilarious character for Get Shorty, he was channeling his (and my) business manager, Edgar Gross. Look. Teeth. Some mannerisms. Edgar’s pic is from ~12 years after Get Shorty. Hackman was a deadringer for Edgar in 1995.

Before my first sale to a major studio, I did odd jobs for people who'd later be my business managers. Gene Hackman was a client. He was charming AND a loner. I got locked in his car pulling it out of storage—battery. “Thanks for not kicking out the windshield—I’d have to give half to my ex-wife.”
