The author's mom was in my high school class, and is one of the most deeply kind and principled people I've known. This story of a journey in faith is so rewarding to read, and exemplifies what (I think) Jesus would want us to do. The last paragraph made me cry.

I'm saving this article. This guy is the kind of parent I would like to be.
I was just thinking this morning how glad I am my son, who he is in his deepest heart, is a gay man.
The weird thing is that his dad required this in order to understand that Christianity comes from the Gospels and not from the Old Testament - a fact that you'd hope a pastor would know, but escapes most conservatives.
