Happy fools spring, Philly!

There is nowhere else I’d rather be today than sitting in front of my five-month-old niece as she drifts off and awakens from a peaceful naptime. May these crib slats be the only bars our world ever sees—and never ignores—your smile shining through. #BringThemHomeNow #BibasFamily #StandWithIsrael

Still calling it resistance or freedom fighting? Your "freedom fighters" and "innocents" strangled a 4 y/o and 10 month old. Then tried to stage it as if they were killed by the IDF. Justify that. Oh, wait, you can't. #IStandWithIsrael #StandWithIsrael #StopAntiSemitism #KfirBibas #ArielBibas

it’s so funny to be like “we don’t need diverse spies”

This is a five-alarm fire 🔥 for US science 🧪. (We keep saying that, but it keeps being true 😭.) Trump and Musk are blocking *ALL* NIH grants ‼️ by "exploiting a loophole in the process"—stopping study sections & council meetings. Every biomedical researcher in the country should be screaming. 1/

www.ynetnews.com/article/by9c... Um hi hello Bluesky, Hamas terrorists murdered two babies with their bare hands, mutilated their bodies, and then shipped those bodies home with the corpse of some random woman who wasn't their mother. Anyone interested in the fate of Jewish children? No?

In 2017, we had the Women's March, the March for Science, the March for Our Lives. We had Run For Something, in PA we had #TuesdaysWithToomey protesting at Toomey's office every week. In 2025 we appear to have... sad faces. Where y'all at?

I would like to know where the #ceasefirenow people are today, when Hamas sent two dead babies home without their mother and blew up 3 civilian buses in an open violation of the ceasefire. You there? Can't hear you over the sound of all hope for an end to the war and the hostages' return shattering.

If you’re wondering why I declined to talk to the NYTimes, then you haven’t been following my account for very long. They bear a direct responsibility for the current situation we find ourselves in, and I responded by laying out my position and that I would only talk to @jamellebouie.net

or, and this is just a suggestion here, they could do their fucking jobs and not hand Elon Musk the power of the purse that is in fact theirs

#ACIP, the expert panel that advises #CDC on vaccine policy, will not meet next week. #HHS, which never gave final approval for the meeting, per sources, suggests it will be rescheduled, but gives no date. www.statnews.com/2025/02/20/a...

As Trump makes concessions to Russia, he is showing weakness on a level unprecedented in modern US history. His position is so weak that it is unlikely to convince anyone. Trump is a sheep in wolf’s clothing. The wolves can tell the difference "The Weak Strongman" snyder.substack.com/p/the-weak-s...

Appeasement was a deliberate approach to buy time for rearmament, in large part because UK intelligence had a completely wrong view of what Germany's actual capability was in 37-38 This is collaboration with the enemy

I want a leader who runs the government like a business. Specifically like the worst family-owned business imaginable. A pet store where the tropical fish have all somehow contracted gonorrhea. A failing adult bookstore run by two feuding brothers who keep trying to blow up each others' cars.

Majority of Americans disapprove of Trump, think he's gone too far in using his presidential power, don't think he's done enough to try to bring down prices, disapprove of Musk's roll in his administration, and are pessimistic about Trump's second term, new CNN poll finds www.cnn.com/2025/02/20/p...

Thinking today about how my son, born in October 2023, days before the massacre, has 6 perfect teeth. Kfir Bibas, whose tiny body can only be identified through dental records, never grew any teeth at all. #bringthemhome

This is what I was talking about last week.

The identification may take 6–24 hours. If Kfir Bibas is in one of the coffins, his identification could be difficult. Forensic scientists use dental records, but Kfir had none. His teeth never had the chance to grow in. He was just a sweet baby. My heart is shattered 💔

This is a red alert for US science, for new cures & treatments for diseases that afflict everyone in this country. This isn't "oh, it will blow over." Soon we will have reached the point of no return destroying what it has taken decades to build. WE NEED TO BE BANGING DOWN THE DOORS IN CONGRESS.

This is an abdication of his duty.

And then read this deeply reported piece—by @matteowong.bsky.social @cwarzel.bsky.social @ibogost.bsky.social—about how Musk and DOGE now have “God-mode” access to government data: www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

Too many details in this just-published @ashleyrparker.bsky.social @matteowong.bsky.social @michaelscherer.bsky.social @shaneharris.bsky.social piece to pick just one. Trust me when I say, just read it: www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

I participated in a clinical trial tracking outcomes for 10 years after giving birth in 2007. They learned and published a lot. But a lot was both groundbreaking and common knowledge because no one bothered to study it seriously before. www.hopkinsmedicine.org/gynecology-o...

To say nothing of intramural research. So many rare diseases under investigation bc NIH is the only option, pharma isn't interested. And the NIH hospital announced today their clinical labs will have long turnaround times and they won't even do certain tests anymore bc they lost the staff.

Protests are taking place all over the country tonight against cuts to vital federal services. Here in Washington, people are marching to SpaceX’s offices demanding Musk be ousted from the government.

Black and white college students went to MISSISSIPPI in 1964 to register people to vote. They got shot at, bombed, beaten and killed. These pampered fucks need to take accountability and act.

Vitally important that Republicans who support NIH Alzheimer’s research reverse this immediately. Susan Collins, Tom Cole, Shelley Moore Capito, especially.

It is hard, today, to not look at my kids and see the Bibas kids, to not look at my husband and wonder what life would hold for him if we were gone all at once. The heart breaks. There are no words. Hold your babies close. #bringthemhome

Shutting down the CDC’s flu vaccine campaign in the middle of a severe season—with 24M+ illnesses, 310K hospitalizations, and 13K deaths—while #H5N1 continues to spread and public health officials across HHS are being fired is reckless and endangers lives. www.npr.org/sections/sho...

Who's in Philly?

i feel like a good rule of politics is "do not create mobs of unemployed people who justifiably blame you for them being out of work" but here we are

My dad after watching The Pitt: "I've been watching this show for a week and I already have burnout and am ready to quit your job." 😂

#WeAreAltGov We are civil servants here to support you getting into ALL the good trouble in the fight to save our Democracy. #AltGov is a growing, diverse group representing wider coverage of agencies that exist today ONLY because of our citizens...& don't EVER let any of your reps forget that.

Have you heard about the SAVE Act? It's the newest effort at voter suppression by the House GOP & it's important for all of us. If you're a married woman or someone who doesn't have their birth certificate/passport handy, you're especially going to want to see this. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

The president is out here literally saying that anything he does is definitionally legal. How could this not be a constitutional crisis?

On the first day of RFK Jr: 5200 HHS workers got fired; the director and much of the staff of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) got fired. At the NIH directors learned of the imminent firings - about 1500 people. At the CDC 1300 people are about to be fired. As a result...

Established in 1951, the EIS fellowship program is for our nation’s best and brightest. Abruptly firing these dedicated fellows is unconscionable, ghoulish, dangerous. I’m furious. www.cdc.gov/eis/php/abou...

It's striking the extent to which there's never any justification given for any of this beyond "it's too many people" or "it's actually fake" and no apparent planning behind any of it. It's the aesthetics of "move fast and break things" without any discernible direction or purpose. It's cosplay.

CDC source: “We just had word that all our fellows and post doc staff are laid off effective immediately. The famous Epidemic Intelligence Service, aka the Disease Detectives, is no more. That’s 1260 staff. They are calling this ‘Phase 1’.”

As we teeter on the edge of a bird flu pandemic, Elon Musk has disintegrated the EIS, aka the Disease Detectives of the CDC. We will not even know the end is coming until it comes. Wear a mask and keep your eye on your state DOH for updates.

For the life of me I can't understand why universities are sending emails that sound like "we are monitoring the situation, stand by for more guidance, we are assessing how to comply with the law" instead of "these orders are illegal, we are filing suit today, stand by for marching orders." Sissies.

YES FINALLY!
