If we apply this for other action games then the concept and implementation gets way blurrier The author mentions souls, DMC, etc, how different are they mechanically from counters? Not much If you again look at fighting games, there are many examples (some cited above) of how to implement it

There are so many ways to implement parry and parry like mechanics with the same level of skill/gamble and arguably even more rewarding depending on the game or character It doesn't need to be an universal mechanic much less be a certain input, you can use counters, autoguards, ibs...
