…and then there's also "normal" font substitution happening when, say, a document using certain font is opened on a computer lacking this font.
The support for all this varies a lot between Windows, MacOS, Linux (including Android) making consistent digital typography hard.

They are also extremely technically complex. A font file often contains a program (maybe a few) to be executed by the renderer, and this is a common source of security bugs.
The renderer also has to handle cases where a character is not supported by the active font and another needs to be chosen…

there are situation where it can be a useful tool. Like Google can be if you know how to form queries right (and most people don't).
It surely is overhyped and used by CEOs to justify asinine decisions.

…and love finding the edge cases (often outside of the normal operational limits) where a system would break.
So they (we) often know more about how the system may break than how it works. Which skews the perception somewhat.

as a nitpick, the destruction of the First Temple and deportation of the elites of the Kingdom of Judah wasn't due to (Neo-)Babylonian intolerance but a punishment for a rebellion. The Achaemenids practiced the same to their disloyal nations, FWIW.

Eric Shahi wrote a series of posts on the creation process

And Fabien Sanglard elaborated on the architecture fabiensanglard.net/anotherWorld... and differences between ports fabiensanglard.net/another_worl...

TBH, Another World is more reasonable addition than many other newer additions because it actually is implemented as a VM (a multithreaded one!) - this is how it got ported to so many platforms including *checks notes* TI-84 Plus calculator?????

Éric Shahi asked them to temporary remove it because an anniversary version of his game was going to be released, IIRC, and they abided

My wife is a veterinary technician (so she needs to convert units or calculate dosages all the time), and during her training soooo many GenZ students couldn't do simple fractions.
Maybe calculators readily available weren't such a good thing after all.

and even not all people who had newer PAL- (and/or NTSC-) compatible TVs allowed their kids to use those fearing that the consoles damage the CRTs. So, the older b&w TVs had to do

I volunteer for a dog rescue, and occasionally drive to would-be adopters to do a home check or to drop off the dog. Some of them (usually older people) email detailed directions to their houses.
Which is surely redundant, but kind of sweet.

It's too bad he didn't brought another "sovereign CEO", a self-proclaimed "owner of the Russian land", Nicolas II.
That guy surely was an example of efficient administration!
(Not that CEOs never ruined companies because the boards - the owners - told them so: Stephen Elop comes to mind)

I'm old enough to remember the outrage when Obama canceled preferential treatment of Cubans, because "we need to help people escape Communism" (somehow Cuban Communism, but not Venezuelan one).
At least, today's GOP dropped the pretense they care…

The thing I want in every one of these stories of "why is ICE doing this?" is to ask the person:
1) What media informed your assumptions about ICE policy?
2) How did that inform your vote?
3) What changes are you going to make in your media diet to not be caught so off-guard again?
