I think we’re all struggling with some aspect of this. We want our institutions to stand up and speak out, but we also fear that it would just add fuel and accelerate the arson. It doesn’t look like higher ed has a cohesive, fire-resistant plan, but the arsonists have been planning a long time…

A very good read, reminding us that it is imperative we resist the urge to publish for the sake of publishing- and it is imperative that we practice and teach critical scientific literacy skills

A brief analysis of the text accompanying this “database of wokeness” shows a word soup with absolutely no substance. There’s no real argument, just arbitrary criteria and handpicked flag words. 😖❤️🩹

Is Derry Girls still on Netflix? If it is, give it a try. It’s funny and clever and so Irish... ☘️

Fair, but the intention is clearly not that of reducing indirects to more reasonable rates, like those in the EU. If that was the goal, it would be pursued through gradual changes and long-term planning. The way this is done is to quickly cripple universities by pulling the rug under their feet 😓

When did this happen? I am trying to track it in the news but all I get are articles from Jan 7 (about the previous administration’s rule).

So many questions and items on these forms feel absurd in many ways, but that one really gets me every time. I wish I could say “here’s what I know about this young person who wants to go to med school. You do your rankings as you please… don’t ask me to rate someone on criteria I do not know. (2/2)

Right!?! I did ask, fyi, but the answer was not very useful, so we had a conversation about why I do what I do and how much I can stretch to accommodate alternatives (quite a bit) as long as they feed into a format I can work with. I think we’ll figure it out 😆. #amused and #notperfect

It’s funny because everyone has their preferences… I am going to propose Google Drive, since everyone is familiar with that.

I also think D as a letter grade, because many programs require a C or better in certain courses, so a D is essentially a failing grade in that context… didn’t think it could mean Drop…

My first-ever elective! We’ll explore socio-scientific issues from multiple perspectives, and use ST to unpack some of the complexities. Lots of student choice, in terms of what issues we’ll focus on, and in what directions the research will go.
