A pregnant woman lost her baby after ICE refused to give her prenatal care. She begged for help and was denied. She was fed food full of cockroaches. She was forced to sleep on the floor. This is absolutely disgusting and we should all be outraged. nashvillebanner.com/2025/05/27/i...

Did I die in my sleep and wake up in hell

Her mother brought her to the US as a child, and affectively abandoned her. She lived in homeless shelters and on the streets. She had to build her own life. She's now 25, married to a Marine and has children. She was ordered deported because her estranged mother didn't go to a hearing.

I saw an art installation in a subway storefront in Brooklyn this weekend that was a dinosaur-themed newsstand and it was delightful.

Wow so you’re telling me everyone who cheered on the Iraq war is on board with this now too? And so are the people who opposed the Iran nuclear deal and killed it? You’re kidding.

Something I am thinking about right now is that a 3 million dollar program that allows abused women to take their pets with them to domestic violence shelters is about to be cut because “we don’t have the money” but the government is about to spend 1000000000x more than that to bomb people

Now that we've bombed Iran someone is gonna need to remind Lindsey Graham that if his erection lasts longer than 4 hours he needs to see a doctor

at least he didn't do something truly reckless like try to forgive student loans

Mahmoud Khalil is finally home with his beautiful wife and newborn son. Each one of the 104 days he spent detained was a grave injustice. From the moment of his detention, @ccrjustice.org + @aclu.org engaged my office as we worked closely to help secure his release. They did remarkable work here.

Job Garcia’s kidnapping by the Trump administration is the top story on the LA Times website right now. www.latimes.com/california/s...

amtrak’s marketing team gets it

You almost have to appreciate just how beautifully this illustrates the gerontocratic nature of American politics: the Ancient Umbrella is imbued with more experience simply because it existed longer.

Walz announces that Rep. Melissa Hortman is dead as a result of a "politically motivated assassination"

If a seven-year-old can’t walk to the store the fault lies not with the parents but with the community.

NEW: ICE has quietly rescinded a policy requiring agents to ensure courthouse raids don't clash with state and local laws. WIRED detected the missing language in a superseding memo posted to ICE's website this week. by me and @dmehro.bsky.social:

63% of American adults had unfavorable views of Martin Luther King Jr in August 1966, per Gallup surveys 46% of Mississippi GOP voters said interracial marriage should be illegal in a 2011 PPP poll to push w/e is popular instead of trying to popularize justice is to admit you lack moral leadership

Let’s talk for a moment about some of the more subtle ways that the press acts as a mouthpiece for law enforcement. Actor Jonathan Joss was shot to death on Sunday. I don’t know what happened; I wasn’t there. But his husband said a homophobic neighbor shot him as part of an explicit hate crime. /1

So LLM chat bots may encourage depressed kids to kill themselves, but they also help really mediocre programmers write bad code faster, so who can say if they're bad or not.

When he showed up to an immigration meeting in Memphis, Kasper Eriksen thought he was on the verge of becoming a citizen. Then ICE arrested the Mississippi father of four, not even giving him a chance to say goodbye to his wife, whisking him away to a prison. @nickjudin.bsky.social reports:

Folks, you can lie to the pharmacist.

I think it's fascinating how many of the trains in my kid's books are coal burning steam locomotives, reflecting a view of trains as an old-fashioned mode of transportation in contrast to the reality of their modernity and efficiency. In this essay I will

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.

people need to internalize, very quickly, that federal research grants are a hypercompetitive contracting process not charity, and that what Uncle Sam gets in return for that money is American dominance in the future

🧵 🧪 This is my 3rd thread on the incarceration of computational scientist and microscopist Kesenii Petrova, and it’s intended for journalists covering the story. I want to say more about the frogs she’s accused of smuggling. Other biologists please chime in. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Guy who used to believe there was a White Genocide happening in South Africa but has since been educated by Grok that it's actually a much more nuanced and complex issue.

What the AI trend is teaching me is that tons of people have no taste whatsoever

Rümeysa Öztürk has been freed!!

Please highlight this story. ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago. kfor.com/news/local/w...

We tried deep-sea mining in U.S. waters already -- back in 1970 -- off the South Carolina coast. Scientists returned to the undersea site in 2023 to see what it looked liked now. One told me: "It's like they were there yesterday." My story: pulitzercenter.org/stories/pull... #deepseamining

Almost every line of this story would have been simply unbelievable a few months ago: —Pioneering cancer researcher; —*Arrested* at airport in Boston; —Now indefinite ICE detention in Louisiana; —"Crime": not declaring some frog-embryo samples for research. Read it. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

His student visa was suddenly revoked but he wasn’t notified—“they don’t want ICE to lose the advantage of surprise” (!!!)—and four days later he was arrested at the hospital where he works.

Content with the progress they've made in harming trans people, the "I just have legitimate questions I'm a serious journalist" shtick is moving to people with ADHD.
