Israelis have a really strong memory (even my generation, who weren't alive back then) of peace and friendship with Iran. There's definitely some wishful thinking and "maybe we can go back" there, as opposed to relations with most of Israel's neighbors which are "ok they've given up on killing us".

Does anyone remember the Israel ❤️ Iran campaign of 2012? An Israeli graphic designer sent a message of love to the Iranian people on Facebook, & to his surprise, Iranians responded with messages of love. The leaders wanted war; the people did not.

I will keep saying it. These people sure seem to lack popular support, an armed militia and a parallel state infrastructure ready for a Revolution™, for a bunch of guys swearing that Revolution™ is around the corner.

Barely two months ago, someone tried to burn the mansion of a Jewish dem governor on a Jewish holiday. The only latino senator in the history of california was violently thrown on the floor and handcuffed for trying to ask a cabinet member why she’s trying to overthrow his state government

Another problem is that anti-LLM discourse is shading into copyright maximalism, which obviously helps the creative industries which are mostly aligned with Liberals or Leftists. In short, if you, a small creative, can see LLMs eating your lunch but can't see how fair use helps you more than Disney

3) The opposite of 1's big think. Lots of bottom-up technical experimentation on applied problems. We are currently overwhelmed temporally, logistically, and organizationally and have been since November. A lot of good abstract ideas are only going to emerge from tinkering on technical problems

an iranian friend of mine mentions that a general complaint within the country is that iran would rather funnel money into proxy wars instead of investing internally. not surprised it applies to their military too

Yep. Don't think it's a coincidence that Hegseth basically wants to turn the existing armed forces into the IRGC.

seems like they suffer from the same disease as Russia: having optimized their military for internal repression and to supply special forces and heavy support to foreign paramilitaries they use as cannon fodder, they are completely worthless at any conflict when they lack that paramilitary support.
