Chair of history department at U.S. Naval Academy resigns after order to remove paper from symposium “for reasons having nothing to do with scholarship.” [James Matheson, Baltimore Sun]

a lot of the people who will chastise you for criticizing Dems instead of focusing on Trump are surprisingly willing to criticize protestors instead of focusing on Trump

Literal secret police dragging people off the streets

LOS ANGELES (AP) — National Guard troops are now protecting ICE agents as they make arrests in LA.

If you're looking to background any LA sheriff's deputies this week to see if they have a history of bad behavior, here is a searchable collection I made of all the disciplinary and use of force (SB 1421/ SB16) records LASD has released so far: journaliststudio.google.com/pinpoint/sea...

I joined Twitter to follow this account about nine years ago. This is disturbing.

this is a half formed idea and I’m very tired but: I sort of think a lot of Americans won’t recognise a civil war if it happens. because it’s not gonna look like the 1860’s war. it’s gonna look like late 20th century Ireland

Yeah my job is pretty cool. My uniform is a tactical vest that’s two sizes too small and a gaiter I bought in a gas station. They send me to sneak into schools to kidnap little kids because people got mad about having to press 1 for English. The president had to warn everyone to stop spitting on me.

“Santa Monica, not far from downtown Los Angeles” is the most hilarious phrase you can say to an Angeleno

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.” They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

Ime LAUSD has trained their admin well, but if you are concerned about your particular school I have an email template you can use to encourage best practices, just DM

I was talking with some friends about when they would join the protests and it occurred to me that everyone thinks they have a “line.” But they kind of expect that line to be self-evident, to happen *to* them. But every line is a decision. You decide to go out or you have decided this is fine.

For LA residents who are not used to protesting, please remember to turn off location and Face/Touch ID on your phone. If you do not, police can legally force you to unlock it for them. US v Brown 👇🏽

Look, I’m not against planning for optics. But this assumes that the flags give right wing media some special ammunition they wouldn’t just fabricate anyway. And these are just regular people, and regular LA flies Mexican flags. Like everywhere. At parades. At graduations. At cookouts.

The protests & slowdowns & leaks & refusals to comply & boycotts & strikes & antifascist art & gumming up the works & sanctuary projects & all the other stuff that we’ve got to run all at once have to feel like that too. Break their hold bit by bit. Here, there, & over here too, until - whoosh.

If only he actually was the person he plays on TV

Ask Columbia how well "don't give Trump the excuse he wants to attack you" has worked out for them

There is NO POLITE WAY to protest. Never has been and never will be.

Just occurred to me that part of why Trump decided he wanted to incite chaos in LA is because he lives in an eternal early 1990s

No ambiguity. He just straight-up shot this reporter.

The weird, often whitewashed way the civil rights movement is taught (or not taught) seemed to convince a lot of people that nonviolence was met with nonviolence, instead of you know, dogs, hoses, beatings, death, etc

LA County alone has a larger population than 40 states.

In the last 20 or so minutes I’ve seen LAPD officers shove women to the ground without provocation, rip a sign out of a man’s hand and then swing a baton into his leg and raise a less-lethal launcher to aim directly at a protester (which I’m 99% is a major policy violation.)

not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

full blown police riot in progress. never let them reframe this.

"specifically telling press to leave the area" is a phrase that makes my stomach hurt. in an age where every protester has their own camera, it's futile, but they don't want us to see what happens next.

Maxine Waters is 86 years old. I would love to know where Newsom is.

I’m going g to be honest with us all here. If you don’t know anywhere to organize local to you, that’s a choice. I seriously see engagement EVERYWHERE.

New: A DOGE staffer developed an AI tool to review Veterans Affairs contracts. But there was a slight hitch. It hallucinated the size of those deals. For example, it concluded that more than a thousand contracts were each worth $34M, when in fact some were for as little as $35,000.

BY ANOTHER COP The media is so used to the exonerative tense that it even uses it when other cops are the victims

NO MORE LONG RIDES HOME NO MORE OF YOUR STATION I DIDN'T LIKE IT ANY WAY

Searchlight is a great name for this new both-sides think tank because they have no moral center, they’re just casting around for whatever sticks

Lyft driver picked me up from UNC, turned out he was a medicinal chemistry post-doc in a building near mine, until his grant got cut last month. Worked on novel antivirals.
