My university sent out an after-hours email earlier this evening telling faculty and staff that we have two weeks to remove all safe space signage and stickers from campus.

"In an unprecedented move, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has begun mass terminations of research grants that fund active scientific projects because they no longer meet 'agency priorities'" www.nature.com/articles/d41...

me since I left ISA

she’s a Grade A grump but she’s my Grade A grump

Commercial real estate is a prime money laundering vehicle in the U.S. & a great way for foreign intelligence to set up infrastructure just an FYI

Call for Applications: 2025 APSA Institute for Civically Engaged Research (ICER) | Deadline: April 20, 2025 APSA’s Institute for Civically Engaged Research (ICER) is a four-day, residential institute that provides political scientists with training to conduct ethical and rigorous civically engaged…

Another interesting thing in this article is 60% of tt poli sci faculty at R1s went to privates for undergrad, compared to 25% of the general public.

Really looking forward to this pentultimate #ISA2025 panel this afternoon:

nope

wow I am so glad someone did this study

Let's call this what it is—the selling off of the collective assets of the United States to private investors—a massive transfer of wealth from the public sector to (some wealthy) private individuals. (and the GSA will likely lease a significant portion back, reinforcing the wealth transfer).

Back for #ISA2025 round 3: I’ll be in the exhibit hall until 1:30ish

this summer is going to intense, isn’t it

…. Has anyone else heard this?

For more recent background on the Corporate Transparency Act: whtwnd.com/elizabethbit...

I spent the first five years of my career working to pass the Corporate Transparency Act. The bill was very careful and supported by every major Republican, including the Trump Administration and Steve Mnuchin. The compliance burdens are *tiny*. The only goal here is to help people launder money.

1/ Treasury Secretary Bessent’s decision (home.treasury.gov/news/press-r...) to not enforce most of the Corporate Transparency Act on a permanent basis will encourage financial crimes using shell companies, including money laundering, terrorism, sanctions evasion, and tax evasion.

Back for round 2 - will be at the #ISA2025 exhibit hall until 12:30ish to have a chat about APSA’s grants and fellowships

a reminder of how much politics in the US has changed recently: TOM COTTON and MARCO RUBIO supported the Corporate Transparency Act! elizabethbitmeehan.com/wp-content/u...

🧵The intersection of the Musk & Putin agendas are coming into focus. Here's what I think is happening. I hope I'm wrong. Key to understand: 1. Trump=POTUS in Name Only (PINO), while Musk runs the US day to day. 2. Musk & Putin put T in office; many of his actions now are repayment of that debt.

NEW: The Minerva Research Initiative, established by the Pentagon to fund social science relevant to national security, is being gutted. Dozens of researchers studying threats from extremist groups, misinformation or climate change have received notices that their grants are being terminated. 🧪

So many folks I spoke with today said they had good attendance & feedback at their panels Community support & care right now >>>>>>>

motherfucker

This was the end goal of crypto aligning behind Trump - the crypto economy has very few actual dollars in it and relies on finding new people to hold the bag to get their dollars. The US government is the ultimate bag holder and they’re going to use your tax dollars to bail out crypto owners.

this was literally the main political beef about NOT setting up the beneficial ownership registry via the IRS rather than FinCEN for the Corporate Transparency Act ... and they just decided it didn't matter anymore. HMMMMMM.

📢 New research alert! My @pgijournal23 article, “Black Agency and Black Political Attitudes” explores key questions of Black public opinion -- building on questions @MHarrisPerry wrote about in 2003! Part of the Flowers for the Founders issue. 👇🏿 tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

includes non-biomedical specific pauses, freezes, etc. as well

"NSF leadership is apparently helping with layoffs, and that 'permanent Program Directors will be undergoing RIF or Reduction In Force process within the next month or so. So far, through buyout and firing today we lost about 16% of the workforce, and RIF is expected to bring it up to 50%.'" 1/2

+1. My lane is shell companies, money laundering, financial regulation, tax transparency, and US higher education policy stuff. Leaning on everyone's academic obsession lightens the load.
