I'm no fan of generative AI, but I do think it's helpful to know what it can be used for.

That's fair, but there's really no guarantee that a human would catch it, either, given that it sounds like they mimicked their manual search terms in the query they gave to the AI. The AI just... did it all at once.

Considering the energy costs of doing each of these searches manually, we might even be ahead. (Might.) All I'm saying is, if this is the biggest scandal we get from WorldCon, we're doing really well. (3/3)

I don't care for the energy costs of LLMs, and I agree that any use of AI is a slippery slope. However, in this case, no jobs were lost. AI did not replace critical reasoning on the part of humans. It doesn't sound like intellectual property was stolen. (2/3)

I'm so delighted that this nugget of a story caught a little win! Thank you so much for running such a delightful contest, and congrats to all the winners!

Alto. It's that middle bit, when you're like, "Where's my 'and He shall reign'?! It's in here somewhere! Oh look I missed it."

I appreciate when people are willing to own up to former modes of behavior and make an effort to change. Thanks.

I've observed that this is a very common practice in lit (i.e. non-genre) markets.

The (short) book Religion As We Know It by Jack Miles really broke open how I, and how many people in the West, have defined "religion." Big recommend!

As a woman, I feel particular pressure to make sure people KNOW THAT I AM HAPPY AND ENTHUSIASTIC ALL THE TIME. Whatever you do, don't let them think you're mad! Having said that, I have heard some men express the same feeling about ‼️s.

At least this means they might try and get dinner ready for once.

That's a great story, if true. I'm skeptical that a sewing pattern template would actually retain such crisp edges when the material itself is already so browned and aged. Looks a bit more like someone edited an image.

Also: "There's something vengeful about agreeing on an interpretation. Set your narrative as canon and in a tiny way you have pried your death out of time, as long as the narrative is recalled by someone else."

This is a major design flaw!
