Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

New Bluesky account. Let's get to work, Maryland!

I heard the NEA is only considering proposals related to 1776 & the USA’s 250th birthday & I was feeling intensely patriotic, so I’m printing these really big posters inspired *directly* by the Founding Fathers The cut was carved from the masthead of a 19th century newspaper

Look! A list with me on it! winteriscoming.net/celebrate-bl... (also some other Major Dudes)

democrats won’t admit it, but my family’s economic outlook has gotten a LOT better since Trump took office. but what do i know? i don’t have a fancy economics degree, i’m just a regular guy who runs an airplane scrapyard

Not true. I'll give you some examples of when styles crossed over from womenswear to menswear, and how men have worn straight-up womenswear or just feminine styles in cool ways. 🧵

I’m in Munich and people keep asking me to decode Vance’s speech. OK: In Vance English “free speech” means “Let Musk run your elections” and “democracy” means “let Russia run your elections.” Now move on. 2025 is about what Europeans do, not what Americans say.

Majestic.

At least 63 lawsuits have been filed against illegal executive orders since Jan. 20. I just finished attending an intense planning meeting with the board of the Climate Science Legal Defense Fund, @csldf.org. We are fighting hard and could use your support. www.justsecurity.org/107087/track...

just occurred to me that I haven't seen a single person here celebrating Gromit's birthday today, we gotta step it up

Mmm, scrambie eggs! #cockatiel

Someone at the American Bar Association ate their Wheaties this morning.

This is the richest man on earth bragging about destroying an agency that’s returned BILLIONS of dollars to working Americans who were cheated by big corporations. Well guess what - the CFPB is protected by law and we will fight to ensure it can continue to fight for consumers.

Gene editing technology began by people studying salt marshes. Ozempic began by folks studying the venom of Gila Monsters. Support for basic science has empowered us to understand our world. Tethering it to applications health has transformed and saved countless lives.

In case you missed it, Wired has been crushing it figuring out DOGE has been doing. A digital subscription for the year is only $12! Don't forget to support good journalism.

Apparently Vought is pronounced like vote? I had no idea. I've been pronouncing it like it rhymes with bought this whole time.

Happy 30-50 Feral Groundhogs Day! My poem “Rough Idyll” published in @kenyonreview.bsky.social is very groundhog/woodchuck/whistle pig-centric and I hope you enjoy. The translation of the lyrics from the French folk song at the end is “Let's have a meal, take this chair, You'll be near me.”

Like most people, I have been paying attention to the news and it's making me anxious and upset. I plan on continuing to post beautiful birds, interesting insects, and fun science facts. It's a nice mental health break for me and I figure it might be for you too. Red-banded Hairstreak #inverts

"And feel it now, so soft, so eternal, this wind against your good and living skin." I just finished The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff, which is so beautifully written. She writes historical fiction in a way no one else can. 📚💙

happy large boulder the size of a small boulder day to those who celebrate

The Welsh told the Saxons this hill was called "pen" (meaning "hill"). The Saxons added their word for hill, "tor," and called it Torpen (hill hill). Later the Norse added their world for hill. So it became Torpen Haugr (Hill Hill Hill). Now the English call it Torpenhow Hill (Hill Hill Hill Hill)

I dedicated years of my life to reporting on January 6 and exposing what happened. I was there that day, co-wrote a book, and published a series of major stories on my own, for Rolling Stone, and for TPM. I hope it mattered. I hope history will remember and understand what happened.

I have no idea what this even means, unless they are referring to having conquered the local newspaper. That he seems to have conquered for sure.

Fill up before the storm, boyos!

Noting: NWS has issued issued winter storm warnings for 4-6" of snow in far north & west parts of area, w/ winter storm watches as close by as eastern Loudoun + northern Mont. counties. Snow total forecast still tricky. New forecast coming midday. More at cwg.live

Hi, Bluesky. Our friends from @cpsc.gov said we should join. Our memes are less unhinged but we try to be funny sometimes. What we really want to do is make sure workers know their rights and employers understand their responsibilities — and where they can go for help with a workplace issue.

I am a former incarcerated firefighter. I served in a California fire camp from 2009 to 2012. Misinformation is afire on the internet, so here are facts about the prison firefighter program, all in one place. A thread.

A conversation on here earlier reminded me of a thing that I’ve always loved and occasionally bang on about. It’s the care taken by Mackenzie Crook to specify which bird species we can hear in the background for many scenes in Detectorists.

Bibby is also 14, and I love the light in this picture of him. You can see his iris which is not black but actually dark brown. Bibby doesn't stand still for pictures very often, he's usually off trying to destroy something. I love how full his sweet, yellow crest is. #cockatiel

I can't believe this little guy is 14. He still looks like a little baby with his short crest and his soft grey coloring (his mom was a lutino cockatiel so I think it's made him lighter) #cockatiel
