Yes! That is messaging we've been sharing with youth and parents for a while. Innocent kids and parents who think/know their kid is innocent talk thinking the system is on their side. And indigent defense for youth is often in short supply.

4) Our most recent look at statistics kept by the National Registry of Exonerations (Feb, 2024) found that of 438 wrongful confessions, 54% were false confessions made by youth who were aged 21 or younger at the time of the crime. That number climbs to 77% for youth of color.

3) We've has been working on the problem of coercive & deceptive police interrogation for 2 yrs. Research shows these methods can lead to false confessions by anyone of any age. The psychological & cognitive differences between juveniles and adults make youth especially vulnerable to these tactics.
