This quote from the late, great Sir Terry Pratchett has seemed to been made specifically with the events of the last six weeks in mind. #BookSky #Resist

Men do not need to put on a dress and go into a public restroom to abuse women and children. They usually just go home.

Roald Dahl on his daughter's death from measles

Y’all need to read up on King Edward II, the Despensers, and Piers Gaveston.

Whenever you feel lonesome, just look to the north star and think of me- no not that star, the other one, the north one- NORTH you fucking idiot

And so, the children of the revolution were faced with the age-old problem: it wasn’t that you had the wrong kind of government, which was obvious, but that you had the wrong kind of people. 2/2

People on the side of The People always ended up disappointed, in any case. They found that The People tended not to be grateful or appreciative or forward-thinking or obedient. The People tended to be small-minded and conservative and not very clever and were even distrustful of cleverness. 1/2

It occurs to me that the two best Discworld characters, Granny Weatherwax and Sam Vimes, are perfect bookends, bc Vimes arguably has the broadest character arc, in terms of his scope of influence at least, while Granny never changes, because she’s already perfectly herself.

People talk shit about possums but it's badass that they're willing to die for their beliefs* *“Fuck cars I’ll walk where I want”

Mr. Rogers said "look for the helpers," but his advice was for CHILDREN. If your ass is grown your role is to BE the helper. I wish I could find the person who said this originally, but it's been too long.

Weak men cannot compromise. Weak men cannot build consensus. Weak men think that leadership means force. Weak men build nothing that lasts.

It also lies in the heart of the New Deal-era public museums & institutions that line the National Mall & continue to draw tourists from across the country nearly a century later. Investing in public resources creates the infrastructure for lasting community.

This entire thread is exactly what I needed today.

I went in ready to hate the whole thing, but the kid sometimes wears a fake mustache as a “disguise,” so now I’m all in. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/d...

Triscuits are miniature wicker placemats for cheese.

“Are you okay?” “No, I’ve been the same height since I was 11.”

THERE IS NO HOPE BUT US. THERE IS NO MERCY BUT US. THERE IS NO JUSTICE. THERE IS JUST US. - Sir Terry Pratchett This has been on my mind a lot since the turn of the new year.

We’ve never seen such division in this country, and I suspect that there’s multiplication, addition and subtraction happening, too. MATH MUST BE STOPPED

I don’t have imposter syndrome. I truly believe I deserve credit for pulling things off with absolutely no idea what I’m doing.

Good.

Nosferatu? Non, TUsferatu. Ce n'est pas mon problème.

I’m not from Cincy, but I lived there as an adult. I was never fully inducted into the cinnamon bun chili cult. And I know this is just trolling. But a) when hyper-local things go widespread, it beigeifies the world and b) Cincy ain’t got much else, let them have this. 😉

If you’re afraid that “men” will fake being trans women to get access to women’s spaces to hurt them, you’re really afraid of deceptive, violent cis-het men. So why not start at the root of the problem instead of putting trans people in the same (or worse) danger by forcing them into men’s spaces?

If Musk buys TikTok, I’m outta there too.

Twitter account deleted. Facebook account deleted. Instagram account deleted. Bluesky and Reddit will keep me going if TikTok goes dead.

This morning I was engaging in my key coping mechanism, purging/organizing. With 4 adults over 50 in a big house, there’s a lot to go through. This morning was my parents’ tv stand, with two big drawers full of cassette tapes, VHS tapes, and CDs. Anyone out there a Mannheim Steamroller fan?

Forget horror movies. The real terror is when your mom has only been sleeping all night for a couple of weeks, and so you can finally sleep, but then the battery alert in 3 smoke detectors goes off at 3am and your husband has to try to replace them before they wake her up.

This poem by two eleven-year-olds becomes amazingly great. (Via this wonderful blog: jacket2.org/commentary/t... )

It’s fascinating to me that my mom is always sleepier/calmer on weekends. I used to think that it was bc I was home, and she felt more relaxed/safe, but I was home most of last week and she was bonkers Monday and Tuesday, then started to calm on Weds. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #hospice #vasculardementia

I need someone to explain to me why it’s always “if you can’t pay rent, buy fewer lattes and avocado toasts” and not “if you can’t pay your employees a living wage, buy fewer yachts and real estate”. Explain it to me like I’m in kindergarten.
