I just finished The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net and I’m calling it now: it’s a 2026 contender for Best Novel at the Hugo’s. It would also make an absolutely *killer* one-season BBC miniseries.

I just read The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net in one nearly unbroken gulp. If fantasy or dark academia appeals to you at all, you should, too. It is really just so, so good. A feat. Brb reading every other word she’s ever published

Read about all the reasons I loved The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net ! Absolutely a five star read! Get swept away by this amazing fantasy novel! www.tween2teenbooks.com/2025/05/the-...

We talk a lot about the closing down of reviewing space, of cultural news -- Locus is doing it and deserves to keep doing it. Not only does Locus review a wide range of writers but it develops longterm conversations about those writers, reviewers who know their work. A small thing that struck me +

this book is out today and i don't know you but i know it's exactly what you need right now (ecstatic, brutal, brilliant visions of the future) bookshop.org/p/books/ampl...

I finally started The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net and it is EXTREMELY fucking good

Good Morning. In the UK, we have a bank holiday. So it is time for me to do some house chores, and then cup of tea and book. Today I am starting a new book: "The Incandescent" by @emilytesh.net I love Emily Tesh's writing, "Some Desperate Glory" is a book I still think about, 2 years later.

4% into The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net and I'm already riveted!

Did I mention I’m doing a digital panel at Cymera this year with @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social? Grab a pass if you can to hear us talk about the great question of all magical schools: Where Are The Adults???

when I came out of Fury Road the first time I thought, well, that was obviously the best action film I've ever seen, the important question is whether it's the best FILM I've ever seen. similar feelings about this book. it's obviously the best magical school novel; is it the best fantasy novel?

Hey, you should read this book! Magic school (from the administrative pov), hot knights (lesbian), demons from the past (literal and figurative)... I absolutely adored it.

This one feels like one big episode highlight to me. The Time of the Ghost is probably my favourite DWJ. what. a. book.

good morning everyone it is TIME! for the GHOST! are you ready to confront the looming spectre of childhood trauma? because DWJ sure is! zencastr.com/z/Z23DWyle

Go get The Incandescent. It's good. More than that, it's INTERESTING.

The Incandescent is so good. Magical school teachers, lesson plans and paperwork and queerness and class (educational and socioeconomic) and people facing the consequences of terrible decisions.

The Incandescent is light and fun and is good for a hundred reasons. But my favorite was this magic school teacher's profound care for her students, and how many social tools she built to get through to them and guide them. Magic or not, you wish you had a teacher like that.

buy my book for the following reasons: - it's really good (source: Charlie Jane Anders in the Washington Post, Abigail Nussbaum in the Guardian, also my mum in the family groupchat) - it has at least one funny joke in it - if enough people buy it then maybe I can have pizza

Honestly, I read The Incandescent in three days, including a stint while at my desk bc I couldn’t put it down. I loved this book - dark academia for teachers, with deep respect for profession, and a step forward for genre. I accidentally bought two, but I’m keeping the second to gift to a friend

Man, both my wolves are shameless, shameless hucksters Also Emily Tesh is a fabulous writer and here is her latest novel that's just now released, check it out us.macmillan.com/books/978125...

Some Desperate Glory is a terrific book and a masterclass in character arc.

UK-based Baldur's Gate fans: y'all have seen that Larian Studios' Story department is hiring three new creatives, right? Great opportunities for writers or editors of the gaming persuasion! larian.com/careers/loca...

Everyone should read The Incandescent AND Some Desperate Glory for the little-treats-wolf.

Three for three in my bubble loved The Incandescent (me, my partner and my friend S). 😃 We are still talking about and recommending it weeks later! (I was lucky enough to get an author copy at Eastercon. 🥰) Go, read! esp if you're a recovering teacher/academic/Cantab/private-school kid!

1. Tesh’s “Some Desperate Glory” was one of the best books I’ve read in years. You should read it. 2. I can’t wait to read her newest, “The Incandescent”. I just have to finish this pesky semester.

inside me there are two wolves and one of them is embarrassed to be doing this much publicity posting and the other one is like SELL BOOK EARN MONEY BUY LITTLE TREATS

Gift link below to Charlie Jane Anders’ latest review in the Washington Post, including some very kind words about THE INCANDESCENT.

Did I finish @emilytesh.net’s The Incandescent at roughly 2 am? Yes. Such a smart, fun, interesting book. My favorite campus novel since The Secret History.

Survived release week so I reread the 40k that exists of the Scenario and got SO upset when I ran out. What do you mean I have to write the rest before I can read it. That’s not fair.

I mean, Marshall Laura (the other main character) is a chaos queer. With a sword. Also highly competent lol. (it was an amazing book and I absolutely loved the POV of the head teacher who's secure in who she is. A little too secure).

honestly it was time us highly competent career focused bisexuals got some Representation™️ (it's all lies, Saffy is VERY chaos, she's just in denial. and it's very competent and focused chaos.)

THE INCANDESCENT has been out in the world for one whole week! Do you like magic school? Jokes? Books about intelligent adults who know what they’re doing? Consider Saffy Walden, who is not a chaos bisexual, thank you. She’s a highly competent career focused bisexual.

And it’s fantastic. I’m actually putting off reading it sometimes because I’m going to finish it soon and I don’t want to be done

Been reading The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net and honestly it’s the part of my day that I look forward to the most

Defo a fave of 2025 so far. Enjoyed @emilytesh.net's Incandescent on so many levels. A window to something obviously personal, yet relatable. Fun to read, story is cracking. Exploration of class, cliques, culture and callings. Also wonderfully written. Goldsboro signed limited edition is sweet.

I am only 8 chapters into The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net but omg it is so so so good! If I could get away with it (I can’t 😔) I’d take the day off and finish it in one go.

So the best thing I did this weekend was finish The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net. What a fantastic book - it's got demons in it but it's also one of the best books about education, growing up, realising YOU are the adult, and seeing other people grow up I've ever read. Wonderful.

Finished @emilytesh.net's The Incandescent last night, and it's amazing – even better than her last. There were a couple of times I was afraid to keep reading because I was too invested, and a completely terrifying tour de force gut punch 3/4 of the way through I should have seen coming but didn't.

It is simply always the DWJ fangirl hour in this house!
