Submissions open tomorrow! June 1! All genres Always free psalteryandlyre.org/submissions

After a year of not sending out my first collection MS, I started submitting it and the MS for collection 2 to different presses back in February. I got my first "no" on MS 1 tonight, from the first press I sent it to. And I'm honestly not sad about it. It feels like progress.

Pretty wild to be living in a time when humans are being forced to work in order to even be considered deserving of life or even to be considered human at all, while simultaneously human labor is being systematically eliminated from the concept of work.

TWO POEMS accepted by TWO DIFFERENT MAGAZINES in ONE DAY?!?!?!?!???

Then perish!!

I don't recommend reading your course evaluations immediately after the semester ends.

A Chicago Pope implies the existence of an MLA Pope and APA Pope

An American pope? In this economy?

If you are using chat bots, this is what you are choosing.

I've gotten a string of rejections from various journals this week and normally it doesn't bother me but right now, it is.

My students are increasingly reliant on AI. Now, before I can even begin to help them become better writers, I have to beg them to actually write. This administration is cutting NEA funding for real, living artists in favor of exploring the possibilities of AI. I hate that AI exists.

My modest National Day of Prayer contribution: Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. ~ James, the brother of Jesus

This battered paperback of Stephen King's The Tommyknockers will fix me, surely

Just turned 33. 😊

“It’s cynical, manipulative, and cruel — and for what? Amazon has already put half the bookstores in the country out of business, controlling over 60 percent of the market and selling far more books than all indie bookstores combined,” Reminder to NOT buy books from Amazon today (or any day really)

All other issues aside, there's going to be major "prompt engineering" burnout for some if not all usecases. Having to create precise verbal instructions is way more taxing & ultimately less rewarding than browsing stock, or sketching, or talking ideas w/ a human artist, or just writing the copy.

When I was growing up autistic kids were "hyper" or "had water on the brain" and there was always a raft of "weird kids" who were socially ostracized because they had a hard time people-ing. If you don't think autism existed before it was commonly called "autism," it's because you chose not to see.

Happy Easter! He is Risen!

RFK Jr. says there are no autistic poets, so we interviewed one. Hear from Elizabeth McClellan, @popelizbet.bsky.social, an award-winning poet, attorney, and legal educator based in Memphis, Tennessee.

That said, an autistic person's ability to write a poem isn't what gives them dignity. They were born with dignity. No autistic person is a burden. None are diseased. They are magnificently human.

RFK croaking about how autistic people "will never write a poem" reveals that he has never actually met an autistic person or read a poem. Come on down to my classroom, punk, and you'll meet 10 autistic poets per class hour.

All autistic people deserve dignity and support, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. Anyone suggesting that they are diseased or are a disease has no idea what he's talking about. And that rhetoric is dangerous.

I’m going to say something that shouldn’t be controversial but will be. If you are a Christian, you can support border control and immigration being legal vs illegal. You CANNOT celebrate deportations and get off on the cruelty, and be a real Christ follower. Period
