Want to start a career in science journalism? Take a look at our internship opportunity - we're a friendly and supportive team, and many of our former interns are now freelancers who I still work with regularly!

'You can’t force someone to have an idea, and you can’t force someone to be entrepreneurial. But if they have that and they have a technology, then they need a support network.' - Jon-Paul Griffiths, chief technology officer and founder of Oxeco www.chemistryworld.com/culture/jon-...

Thanks to the @tcddublin.bsky.social media team for this! It looks like my book is starting to appear in the wild this week - I really hope everyone enjoys the story of onscreen chemistry. Rem there is a 30% discount on @rsc.org till end Feb #ChemSky #Booksky #chembook www.tcd.ie/news_events/...

I have run out of patience with the apparent silence of most US science institutions (and not just US) in the face of Trump & Musk's rampage. There are of so many facets of that, but in this column for @chemistryworld.com I talk about the assaults on inclusion. www.chemistryworld.com/opinion/scie...

As applications for chemistry degrees have been declining in recent years, the next round of curriculum reform raises important questions for the whole chemistry community. Just what is an acceptable grade boundary for this age/stage? www.chemistryworld.com/opinion/why-...

Sometimes I think the people who run train stations have never tried to travel by train

Andrea Sella has 'heard Italian chemists refer to ‘Il Vogel’,' a marker of how 'the volumes having become part of a shared experience for chemists globally.' www.chemistryworld.com/opinion/voge...

I've taken a closer look at UKRI's new training grant terms and conditions and there's some good additional support now on offer, particularly for disabled researchers and those who need to take a break from their PhD. But the value of that is eroded if stipends stay too low to cover living costs

With UKRI's announcement that it's increasing PhD stipends by 8%, I've updated my chart of stipends v minimum/living wage since 1999. From next October, PhD students will take home around £100 a year more than someone working 37.5 hours a week on the living wage.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences so far! Reminder that this form will be closing on Monday 3rd February at 5pm GMT. This form is for anyone who is asexual, aromantic and/or agender in STEM ⬇️

Love this challenge! And I humbly suggest that some of the Ci graphics might provide useful #ChemistryConversations starting points.

Great idea! Based on a couple of recent real-life #ChemistryConversations I've had off the back of people commenting how much better new no/low-alcohol beers have become in recent times, I can suggest the various ways that alcohol-free beers are are made as a #ChemistryConversationStarter

The countdown is on to the release of my book “Onscreen Chemistry” - which tells the story of chemistry/chemists in moving pictures from the very beginning up to the present day, charting all the highs & lows. You can pre-order it here for 12th Feb #Chemistry #SciComm books.rsc.org/books/monogr...
