Well caring deeply about politics turned out to be a mistake. Time to instead become emotionally invested in a field where I’ll never be let down: sports

Taking a cue from the lizard and tortoise to sit in the sun for a moment or two on this beautiful autumn morning

Have reached a phase in my life where I’m not sure if the person is offering me their seat on the train because I’m a woman or because they think I’m old 🫣

Even though I’m not necessarily looking forward to going back to work tomorrow I think its definitely time - I’ve started cleaning up and throwing out from random cupboards around the house. I’m not super good at resting for too long!

Watching the Kayo coverage for the test just so I can enjoy Kerry O’Keefe in full flight. His joy is contagious 😁 you’d love it @daniell0ck.bsky.social

How good is a competitive 5-day test! Thanks MCG curators for such a great pitch 👌🏻🏏

Reason 1088765 why volunteering in your local sport club is rewarding and fun - getting to play cricket at the Boxing Day Test at the G with these little champions 🏏

Building nuclear reactors in Australia is like building a couple of hundred billion dollars worth of gigantic wave pools around the coast. Why? Just go to the beach you drongo. Can't even believe this is a conversation - what a stupid country.

Off to #SMAANZ2024 today to talk about sports romance fiction 📚💖🫶 Excited to share my research passion for this space as a site for diverse fan engagement that is also just very fun! And reading sports romance fiction for research? Best. Data. Collection. Ever!

Hope all of the PhD students are having a great day at #SMAANZ2024! I've got a bumper crop of amazing students presenting this year, can't wait to nod enthusiastically in the crowd for them.

THREAD: Research we should be thankful for. The chances that we and everyone we know and love would be here today, alive, healthy and thriving without the advances of science and technology are basically zero. Today we look through the research and scientists to whom we owe everything. 1/19

Fantastic #AFLW Grand Final lunch event today with VECCI. The team representing all things women’s sport in our @leaguetees.bsky.social attire. You’ll be getting some new orders Tony - we found a few new fans of your work 🙌🏻

I'm finalising my slides for my first presentation at #SMAANZ - Sports Management Australia and New Zealand next week. So excited to present this research on behalf of just a brilliant team of collaborators. @aureliepanko.bsky.social @emmasherry.bsky.social Kavanagh, McLachlan, Hamer, Parker

Melbourne’s warm and rainy weather this week is causing havoc for my hair but I’m pretty sure I can actually hear my garden growing! 🌱

Watching one of my favourite women in @emmasherry.bsky.social introduce two more of my favourite women in Helen Garner and Leigh Sales to talk about a footy book equals a pretty perfect evening 📚🏉💚 I can’t wait to read ‘The Season’ 🏉

Once you’ve seen it you cannot unsee it!

Wow so many follows today! I think a combination of appearing in some a very lovely starter packs and a whole lot more people joining 🦋. BTW some of your bios are very clever.

For everyone going to SMAANZ conference soon, are we going to try to build the little community here with some posts? Looking to the always connected and engaging @drsarahwymer.bsky.social for her expertise and insights

Melbourne doing its Melbourne thing to community sport this weekend - Friday night kids cricket postponed for an hour until the temp got below 36c (6pm start). Blasters (4-8 year olds) cancelled this morning with rain 🏏 ☀️ 🌧️

A new starter pack for all things and people in the sport for development sector - please let me or @kyliebates.bsky.social know if you’d like to be added to the list or if we are missing connections who should be added too go.bsky.app/5pmzqzk

Just realised that both of my images on my profile feature @leaguetees.bsky.social t-shirts! Thanks for making iconic sport moments wearable (particularly women’s sport!)

What’s better than regular winning? Smug environmentally friendly local community winning! 🍣 🥉

David Warner has slipped into the commentary box with the ease of a parent walking across a kids bedroom floor littered with Lego pieces.

Not many people get to book in a research meeting at 8pm in the evening Australia time but one of my favourite Brits @crjenkin.bsky.social can any day. Always a great chat and guaranteed more than a couple of laughs.

Yay! All of my fave Australian women’s sport peeps are popping up! 🥰 Waves at @kaseysymons.bsky.social @racey19.bsky.social @emmarace.bsky.social @glbastiani.bsky.social 👋🏻

Watching the kid’s cricket match is always a nice way to end the working week. Even nicer when he gets the run out off his own bowling that wins the game by one run 🏏

Any advice on the best way to encourage/drag/nudge friends and colleagues away from the bad place? #Sportmanagement and #sportsociology researchers and associations I’m looking at you!

So I used to be emmaesherry at the bad place, but happy to find some familiar faces here - my world spins around Melbourne (Naarm), higher education, AFL, cricket, women’s sport, and researching how sport can be used as a tool for social change 🏏🤓🌏
