Dear Manager, 1. I drank a whiskey drink. 2. I drank a vodka drink. 3. I drank a lager drink. 4. I drank a cider drink. 5. I sang the songs that remind me of the good times; I sang the songs that remind me of the better times.

Dear Manager: 1. I skipped out the back, Jack 2. I made a new plan, Stan 3. I hopped on the bus, Gus 4. I just dropped off the key, Lee 5. And got myself free

It is an extremely challenging time for higher ed, and I don't envy institutional leaders at this moment, but I am nonetheless deeply disappointed by this decision & the lack of communication to faculty about why it was made: www.thedp.com/article/2025...

These are all so good. Another I've seen doing the rounds (I can't take credit for it, but I love it): 1. Hammer in the morning 2. Hammer in the evening 3. Hammer out danger 4. Hammer out warning 5. Hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters, all over this land.

Here's a reason to get up and get going this morning.

Appreciation, gratitude, and solidarity to NEH staff in these devastating times. I am furious at what you are being put through. Completely unacceptable state of affairs.

stand apart from these passions to see how they work..find passions of our own: desire for a freedom equally shared...equality that makes good on democratic promises..repair and regenerate the earth’s living processes...affirm the complexity of our embodied lives www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The only hope for higher ed is the academic labor movement. Join this @higheredlabor.bsky.social call next week to plan our fight us06web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

Congratulations, Miriam Gershow, upon being selected as a finalist for the Oregon Book Awards! @miriamgershow.bsky.social !

Those moments when my heart lurches with love and gratitude for so many fellow Americans.

So hard to figure out productive responses amid so much noise. But sí, te escucho. Estoy pensándolo. Y mientras tanto, reposting.

I generally trust The Guardian's movie reviews, but they totally whiffed it on The Last Showgirl. It's really worth it.

Also this (and I need to credit @brettrushforth.bsky.social for the find)

I have these lines rolling around in my head somewhere most of the time. But as we stare into the maw of whateverthehell it's going to be, starting today, I'm especially glad that Williams wrote them and I get to carry them.

Also love this. Humans can be witty, lovely, and OK a lot of the time. Must remember that in 2025.

Love this!

Kay Ryan captures it.

So glad someone posted this poem where I could run into it again.

Let's not leave out mental and intellectual laziness. By abdicating the up-until-recently basic expectation that we as humans approach the world imaginatively, institutional leaders have found a way out of the demand that what is imagined be built by the application of techne and expertise.

Happy to comply! Congratulations, Miriam Gershow!

‘Last Tuesday morning I taught my first class of the winter term. After about an hour, a student abruptly left the room; I later learned he had received an automated text message ordering him to evacuate his home.’ Anahid Nersessian writes from LA: www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/ja...

@hightheorypodcast.bsky.social might be my favorite among the gifts bluesky has sent my way since I joined. Great stuff, Kim Adams and Saronik Basu. Thanks, and congrats on finding your audiences!
