George RR Martin that thing. Go write five other books (ok, compilations, maybe a prequel), produce some TV series... A video game maybe?

Excited for you! Going to shows is therapy for me. I need a bass amp to vibrate my skeleton at least once a month or I suffer.
Just saw The Kills on Sunday, was tremendous.

Changing a car battery is so satisfying. It seems complex and dangerous and then you do it and it's like 'oh! I wonder if anyone else needs a battery changed?'

In 2005 I founded an art collective with 2 friends that lasted over a decade. We brought some real joy to our community and invigorated the art scene in a lot of ways. Our art and music festival was fire, but we didn't call it that back then. I can do something on that scale.

I've already been dissuaded from federal civil service. I'm not sure I'll ever go back. I'll find a way to serve my community, but it's more likely going to be on my own terms, local. All this experience of mine working on big problems will have to do for small ones. Good work but could be better.

It just highlights how fucking stupid this all is. The hope is that things go back to relative normal in 3.5 years, and we can get back to the business of running the country well, but I know from history this takes decades to fix. And that's assuming we don't have a bigger crisis (read: civil war).

Really bothersome because every job seeker in the room was so anxious and hopeful. I met a woman who was recently retired USAF with a PhD and executive experience, had job offers rescinded in Jan, and was just kind of lost. She was nervous to talk to the 25yo handing out branded notepads.

All the tables were just info counters basically. No one there was doing or scheduling interviews, asking about qualifications or otherwise doing anything I couldn't do online myself. Several folks did ask if I wanted a tote bag or pen. The lemonade was too sweet, coffee was mid. The muffin was ok.

It's kind of like The Stand and Station Eleven, with a lot of other influences mixed in. There's a reveal halfway through the book that really spins the narrative in a crazy way, creating a more unique world than I expected. It was a good read throughout. Recommended for anyone who likes books.
