Devon & Cornwall police winning a £2.8m confiscation order against the Tate brothers? Get the Cornettos in, my lovelies

Relavant.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends: 1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration; 2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you; 3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO MAKE MONEY. NOT EVERYTHING SHOULD MAKE MONEY.

⚡️West should pressure Russia into peace talks, not Ukraine, Polish FM says. Future negotiations "should be encouraged and forced on the aggressor, not the victim," Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on Dec. 16.

It’s being reported tonight that Reform’s Treasurer Nick Candy is planning to visit America to meet Elon Musk after reports he could donate £100m to the party. The meeting could apparently come within days. We need to make BlueSky the biggest social media platform on the planet

As featured on Rest is Entertainment our @moreincommonuk.bsky.social polling of how Brits favourite Christmas films breakdown by voting intention. Labour holds landslide leads with fans of Elf & the Grinch. Tories storm ahead with Love Actually and Reform are ahead by 5 points with fans of Scrooged.

I've been writing publicly for YEARS about unis starving the humanities of funding & pitching it towards AI. The AI-developed Comp Lit course at UCLA is just some toes in the water. We're going to see much more of this if faculty don't resist. My piece from 2021: theconversation.com/how-ai-is-hi...

“A coordinated network of Facebook pages, related to the far-right Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR)” ran “4,140 political ads … reaching an audience of 160 million. These campaigns, with a budget ranging from €167,900 to €264,909, repeatedly violated Meta’s advertising policies”

Lee Krasner’s Mosaic Table to brighten a stormy morning. 1947.

With Farage back on Question Time last night... ...here is your reminder that Farage was on BBCQT a record-breaking 35 times before he became an MP. And, further, that the panellist selection on BBCQT has been heavily slanted to right-wing think tanks and commentators over the years.

Why is the government not capable wiping the floor with Nigel Farage every single day like this? Alastair Campbell effortlessly destroys him over his Brexit legacy which by almost every economic and financial measure has been disastrous for the country

Laura Wolvaardt currently has 601 runs in ODIs at an average of 100.17 in 2024. Wolvaardt is one of just two women to have scored 600+ runs in the format in three different calendar years (2017, 2022, 2024). The other is Tammy Beaumont (2016, 2019, 2022). #SAvENG

Universities do not exist to 'train', produce 'skills' or generate 'impact'. They exist to create new knowledge and teach about it. Any assertion to the contrary is in error, and is destroying everything it touches.

Powerful speech by Labour MP Flo Eshalomi who argues that health inequalities mean assisted dying is not safe - people are already being denied care due to their background.

Extortionate it certainly is.

Aw, shame, so sweet.

This is great news. Let’s do the water industry next

for some reason I’ve remembered what Jeremy Clarkson, who said he bought land to avoid inheritance tax, said on live TV about striking public sector workers (extra marks for use of ‘us’)

With farm owners protesting today over the prospect of paying a highly discounted inheritence tax, I'm sure you've seen quotes about how they "feed the nation". But nobody is talking about the migrant workers who actually pick the crops on horticulture farms, so here's a short thread about them.

could we maybe do a protest of people who are currently renting and can't afford to buy property and who also won't inherit enough to ever buy a place

Victoria Derbyshire nails Jeremy Clarkson over his Inheritance Tax scam. Hilarious to watch him squirm.

Hi @mashley.bsky.social Would you consider adding @zero-hour.bsky.social to your starter pack please? 🙏 This is the campaign for the Climate & Nature Bill—for legally-binding, science-led action on the environmental crisis. #CANBill go.bsky.app/Gq8LXLp

Exactly this!

Facts.

We said prayers in the village church for James Dyson & Jeremy Clarkson.🙏 These modest, self effacing men have suffered enough! Thanks to that Reeves woman these 2 men could face life without a valet.🥺 These two men provide us with wit, inventions & stodge. Please help them!

Superb.

It’s Tuesday! Have a good one folks 😊☕️ Met this little fella yesterday. He was disappointed I had no crumbs.* *note to self: always keep a biscuit about my person.

The Royal Family is charging the RNLI to launch their boats This is a disgrace. For how much longer will the public tolerate this disgusting archaic system. #AbolishTheMonarchy www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/the-roy...

Just don't buy Dyson!

Brexit has cost £140 billion so far. Expected to rise to £311 billion by 2035. Predicted to knock 4% off UK GDP. Increased food prices by £250 a year for each household. Cost 4,000 EU doctors working in the NHS. Reduced imports & exports by 15%. 👇 www.bestforbritain.org/brexit_impact

BBC World Service a 25% uplift in govt grant next year, in soft power boost. FT is told it's an extra £27m, on top of baseline £104m. Comes as UK struggles to counter rise in Russian/Chinese propaganda. Great news. ~AA www.ft.com/content/e549...

The Country Land and Business Association says the new £1m cap on agricultural inheritance tax relief will "harm 70,000 farms". That's 1/3 of all farms. What does the actual data show? Less than 500 farms/year will be pay more tax as a result of this change every year. Possibly as few as 100.

I've been asked what my favourite commentary is on the budget and it's unquestionably this exchange.

Forgive us if we don't take their opinion seriously on this one.

Yes please.

I was recently asked to talk about being a “content creator” and I had to flat out say I am not a content creator To reframe what I do as an artist to being a content creator is something the internet has been pushing for a while and I just refuse to give into it or allow my life to become that
