Props to State Senator Julian Cyr for his work on the local housing crisis and AFCC for allocating a full episode to this critical issue that year round artists face doubly in terms of places to live and work. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

Throwback to last weekend’s treat to myself after a lovely life drawing session. I’ve read quite a few books on O’Keeffe but this one’s new to me: Georgia O’Keeffe, Photographer by Lisa Volpe, Ariel Plotek; Yale University Press #worldbookday

Days before Zelensky entered the Oval, the Trump administration sided with Russia in the UN vote. The bogus implosion of last week’s meeting was a flimsy pretext to prop up the plan all along- Trump doing Putin’s bidding.

Excellent solo show of work by Stewart Beckett, AROI, on now at Palais des Vaches, Exbury. He’s also running workshops this spring and summer- for more visit palaisdesvaches.co.uk/art-workshops/

Albert Gold, Out of Work, 1940, oil painting at D Wigmore Another great painting that is once again relevant, given the heartless (and dangerous) terminations of our Federal employees by the Tump/Musk admin. #artsky

I don’t use the term disease in relation to myself but it’s Rare Disease Day so here’s some insight on life with MCAS and HaT in an effort to promote awareness.

Kelly does an amazing job in this 🧵 describing what it’s like to live with MCAS & HaT. I’m in a much better place thanks to world class doctors, testing, diagnosis, & medication but it’s still something I have to manage daily.

If you’re like me at the moment—in dire need of hope and motivation— I highly recommend this documentary about the extraordinary and successful campaign by Irish women to Repeal the 8th Amendment. the8thfilm.com

The United States doesn’t support Ukraine as a favor, but because it serves our security. Putin is a dictator, not Zelensky. Putin started the war, not Zelensky. Yelling in the Oval Office and siding with Putin is shameful and a danger to democracy around the world.

Currently living in the UK & this is pretty much the first thing people ask lately. Many folks tell me “it’s only 4 years” not grasping the depth of danger to future free & fair elections, esp. w/ legislation on deck like the SAVE ACT which would decimate voting rights. But we’ll never give up.

I’d be remiss not to follow-up with this episode featuring former Obama speechwriter (& my brother!) Terry Szuplat, discussing his book Say It Well: Find Your Voice | Speak Your Mind | Inspire Any Audience. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

While I’m at it! Frank Anigbo’s reflections on being dejected at age 24, now having aspirations rather than goals, steering in the general direction, yet allowing himself to change his mind resonated so deeply with me. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

What a perfect companion listen while I’m reading The Shores of Bohemia! Ken Fulk’s recap of revitalizing the Mary Heaton Vorse house, his attitude to life, and advice for artists is gold. 🎧Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Creative Exchange Podcast podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

Abhorrent betrayal of the people of Ukraine. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The SAVE Act threatens to disenfranchise millions with strict in-person requirements for voter registration. This will disproportionately impact service members and civilians abroad. Go to 5calls.org to find your reps. #ProtectTheVote #DemocratsAbroad #VotingRights #SAVEAct

I was also subsequently delighted to discover that Monica Dickens also lived for several yrs in my hometown, Falmouth, MA! Additionally, she was responsible for bringing the Samaritans to the US and was instrumental in the installation of signs and suicide barriers on the bridges to the Cape.

As a maxim oft applied to meeting people, I do my best not to. But in a literal (& literary) sense, I find judging a book by its cover— or, more accurately, having my interest piqued by— is often vindicated by the contents within.

“I have drawn like crazy so that when I no longer have eyes, I will have them at the ends of my fingers.” —Suzanne Valadon, the Centre Pompidou podcast, English version podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/l...

Looking forward to this upcoming exhibit at Palais des Vaches: Out of the Grey by Stewart Beckett, AROI Opening Reception/ evening drinks Thurs 27 Feb 5-8pm

One of my favorite paintings I saw last year. I didn’t include it in any retrospective vids or reflections on the year— it didn’t seem to fit with other work I’d seen— it stands on its own. Sacrifice by @chalkboardstudio.bsky.social when it was on view as part of his solo exhibit at PAAM

These volumes languished in the ceiling of my house for 175 years. They came out as one large 2X8" chunk of pine during a renovation. I was mystified for a long time. One day, I saw what was in front of me. The books emerged with just two saw cuts and some minor work with a chisel and stain.

Hell yeah. Hold the line. This is what we need people to do. Slow things down, don’t comply in advance so the courts have time to stop them. It’s starting to work.

If you're wondering why Trump, Musk, and Vance are attacking the judiciary👇

Enjoyed the private viewing at SPUD Artists Studios, Sway, at the weekend of CLAY, a joint exhibit w/ Arches Studios, Southampton, artists. Interactive display concept was a first for me. Pictured is an image created by Lizzie Jones with pigments hand-ground from wild clay she collected.

More context if you can’t access the NYT article.

Highly recommend @rygraham.bsky.social columns in @bostonglobe.com as well as her Outtakes email

Only been painting in oils for 28 yrs, when will I stop confusing cad yellows when ordering… PY35 and PY65 may appear similar on the screen but are quite different IRL.

A not insignificant context is the often trying times they lived in and reacted to: war, poverty, exile, religious/sexual persecution, social/economic upheaval, etc.

Reading about artists’ lives is simply enjoyable but also provides me with a sense of connection to a community bigger than myself… these words may be too stodgy—legacy, tradition— but hint at what I mean.
