Kicking veterans out of their homes is a great look for the Trumpo administration.

He has reoriented federal programs around the primacy of whiteness, which is plain as day unless, as the author appears to, you have swallowed the lie that race is something only nonwhite people have

A good starting point for reporters, headline writers, and readers is to not take for granted the government's initial claims. Because they are probably not true.

Seeing @noaa.gov pushing propaganda valorizing deep sea mining makes me feel physically ill. Another one of our most essential scientific institutions decimated by fascism.

ICE can enter anyone’s home, and abduct and deport them to a foreign prison indefinitely because the DOJ says they can ignore the 4th, 5th and 15th amendments. If there’s no due process or protections against illegal search and seizures, none of us are safe.

a gen x classic rewritten for the times🥲

I would like for stupid people to stop making important decisions that affect my life

god I love massholes

Everyone says that Black Mirror is about how technology is bad, but every episode I've seen is actually about how people are bad and technology can't save us from that

I honestly can’t stop thinking about this RFK speech. A lot of the outrage around it is focused on pointing out that it’s not true. But so fucking what if it was? Do people whose bodies don’t work not deserve to exist in society? If all these things were true for a person are they less worthy?

Add it to the list!

I hate these people so much. I grew up with every book and show telling me to protect the environment, protect the planet, because we all live here. A universal truth. And somehow these people want to do the opposite, call themselves the good guys, and their constituents celebrate them.

The American economy isn’t built to think - it’s built to comply. Risk aversion is reshaping our politics, our education system, and our global standing. We’re raising a generation that’s optimized for survival, not innovation - and it’s costing us everything. kyla.substack.com/p/compliance...

I see it. I have lived it. 83 years ago, the U.S. government turned upon a group of its own citizens and residents and sent them to internment camps without due process. I was there among them. American fascism is back. It is here. It is now.

hey friends, the best story I've written so far, "The Lord God Bird," is now live at Philadelphia Stories magazine. if you like tales about people searching for redemption in an irredeemable world, class angst, and looking for absolution in the Arkansas swampland, consider this your huckleberry

Not even 100 years ago. Middle of last century. I have a buddy in his early 80s who grew up in Iowa and he said that as a kid, "sometimes kids just died" from now preventable illnesses. His childhood was marked with the deaths of classmates.

White House wants to cut the ENTIRE research division of NOAA. This is insane. (gift link) www.nytimes.com/2025/04/11/c...

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Yesterday I watched Rick Steves' The Story of Fascism in Europe (made in 2018 but new to me). Anyway it's on Youtube and is super accessible and interesting. I learned a lot about Mussolini. BTW yes we are sliding into fascism right now www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU1I...

Book 3 manuscript submitted 🥳

This ain’t The Apprentice—Trump can’t just fire Dems from federal labor boards like it’s reality TV. This is a huge win for democracy and workers’ rights.

This is really unfair to everyone who just voted for him for the racism.

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

i miss the early internet. people were like “you gotta see this dude. this cat sure is long.” and they were right. it was really long. it never shoulda gotten any more complicated than that.

Others have pointed this out already but the Booker's "stunt" is him literally Doing the Job - impassioned speechmaking is supposedly the main reason for Senators to exist and the only reason any of them from before the United States was established are remembered by name

Repost a movie you know all the words to.

I hope this AI shit crashes and burns, and all them get jail time for copyright violations. AI is theft #FuckAI

dozens of essays covering why women enjoy romantasy novels where human ladies fuck fairies/vampires/aliens, and extremely few about the counterside of heterosexuality where men genuinely & sincerely want to fuck images and machines

ALERT: After 30 minute hearing here in DC, Judge James Boasberg orders Trump national security team to preserve all Signal communications between March 11 and March 15.

“If someone legally in the United States can be grabbed from his home for engaging in constitutionally protected political activity, we are in a drastically different country from the one we inhabited before Trump’s inauguration.” www.nytimes.com/2025/03/10/o...

the fact that a single human being can have *and lose* $16 billion and it not affect his existence in any material way is a sign of how broken our world is

Two spirals, both alike in dignity, In fair Virgo where we lay our scene. From ancient light, new stars take birth, Where hydrogen gas makes spiral arms gleam. from forth the cosmic dance of stellar strife A pair of star-crossed galaxies, dance in the night An R&J take that came to me seeing this.

Roughly 6,000 veterans have been laid off in recent weeks by the U.S. DOGE Service, according to federal data compiled by Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee.

We’ve been tracking one piece of the Trump administration’s slash/burn campaign: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau— and its role helping people with medical debts. A federal court has barred further cuts, for now. But… firstaidkit.substack.com/p/a-medical-...

It’s striking how effectively republicans tied mainstream dems with random internet communists, despite the two groups hating each other, while the vice president and shadow president are clearly in a million group chats with literal nazis and people hardly notice

Left-wing censorship was a fantasy, but the right-wing censorship is real, unconstitutional, and murderous. There was no majority anti-conservative social media bias or casual forced use of words like “birthing person.” But stripping protest rights and official language is actual deadly censorship
