Tuppence a bag 🕊️

This is proper nice. Big Jack at the Sutton Arms, Clerkenwell 👍🏻🍺

Got the best finish number today 💪🏻 #BirthOfTheSupergrid

My boss of ten years has handed over management of the transmission system in London today, ready for retirement in August. He’ll be back p/t as a consultant. He’s been powering the capital since 1980 in one role or another 🤯

If you're an MP you can punch someone to the ground, keep on punching them, and walk free. The Establishment is alive and well!

End of an era as the main boss of powering our capital chairs his last team meeting today 😢

Waved goodbye to the birthplace of the supergrid this afternoon… well, au revoir at least 😉 Then straight down to Kent for a cheeky wiring mod. Took the electrical widow with me as she don’t get south of the water much nowadays. Tomorrow I am to put a poorly transformer down 😔😖

Need to fix this beast to my study wall in a neat way, which also allows wiring to power twinkly LED lights, switched via the 2 amp table / floor light circuit. It’s a tricky one but I have a few ideas…. Hidden fixings and maybe a hidden toggle switch underneath. The electrical widow has approved 🥰

As a boy, my local Chinese did the BEST BBQ sauce. Thick, sweet, chipshop curry brown, laden with MSG 😋 I travel all over England fixing DAR & HAVE NEVER found anything quite like it 😖 Nowadays they thin, red, orange, sour, gravy… whatevs. Somebody point me to dirty backstreet Chinese BBQ sauce 🤷🏻‍♂️

(Towers) 😘

Let’s do this ☀️

I imagine a world where you can do this every day! That’s not the crowd going wild, but a 400kV EE Frame R ABCB tripping 27km away, heard down the phone. My intertrip would have reached him in around 40ms and tripped the remote infeed ⚡️👊🏻

Last commute for nearly 2 weeks. 😊

The UK applauds the Baltic states for desynchronising from the Russian power grid. We support them in their work to strengthen their energy resilience. I'm looking forward to visiting Vilnius in March to show our commitment to Baltic energy security. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Baltic states cut energy ties with Russia as Poland strengthens cooperation

Trois mille volts le matin: Waiting to leave Brussels with the 10:56 to London. The train is using 3kv DC overhead power at this point and switches to 25kv AC at the start of the high-speed line. #BehindTheScenes

Is Five Guys any good? Not any wild parties…. The burger chain. I’m nowhere near a Chinese and planning supper 🍔

When you’ve been in the business as long as I have you have an anecdote and catchy saying for every occasion. Today’s comes from an engineer I admired greatly - “I don’t listen to people who don’t know what they’re talking about” (pre Olympic 2012 big call) 😬😆

⚡️ The historic moment of Estonia leaving the Russian-fed power grid. On February 8, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia left Russia and Belarus energy system. By the end of the day today, they will have joined the European grid.

Finished boarding this ceiling. 2 x 12.5mm noise block on resilient bar and all seams and joints fully overlapped. She wanted just one single grand light fitting in the middle. Rest will be floor / table lamps and the A Unit 🥰💡 Now back to my DAR drawings

21 years since I was last here. Lovely to be back ☺️

Battersea A control room. Probably the most famous control room on social media. I decommissioned the 66kV sub in 2002. One of my first jobs in London

After an important FAT next week, I’ve three vital circuits in the Midlands area that I’ll be trip testing, with a few design tweaks, to restore DAR to a crucial MIS route. My ambition is to reach ZERO DAR defects in England & Wales, one circuit at a time 👊🏻🥰

Morning! Bonjour! Goedemorgen! Day 5: Brussels on the 09:01. It's a gloriously crisp winter's day out on the iron road.

When the wall is boarded soon, nobody will ever see my cutting on around the studs. So I’m sharing it so my efforts didn’t go to waste 😆

Tertiary earthing on an auto transformer

Plaster board lifter. Best £70 I ever spent 👊🏻💪🏻

Shake down ride over Blackstone Edge to run in new tyres on the Bianchi, ridden this route so many times but never taken a close look at this

Trimmed these laths with my new multi tool. Ready for boarding tomorrow. Res bar! Do you all use res bar? You should. It makes the best ceilings 😘

I’ll be boarding this ceiling next week. Just finishing a 2amp lighting radial circuit my wife wants- table lamps, floor lamps, an A Unit etc 😉 If BlueSky did long vids, I’d show you how I single handedly double board ceilings with 2 x 12.5mm noiseblock with ease 💪🏻

Wife helping me rewire our ground floor today 😍 “Do you know what all those wires are gonna be for?” “No, do you?” “But you’ve just pulled them in!” “I know. I’ll work it out when the time comes 😆” “Are you like this at work?” “MUCH, MUCH WORSE” 😉

As #StormÉowyn hits we're monitoring issues with the power system & engineers are working to restore power to those affected. Éowyn is far from over - prepare for any potential disruption by following advice: 🔴https://energynetworks.org/customers/storms-and-bad-weather 🔴https://powercut105.com/en/

Yes scientists and doctors can get it right !

Engineers are working hard to reconnect all those without power, but there are still extremely challenging weather conditions to deal with. Thank you to everyone working in our public services today in difficult circumstances to keep people safe and support the most vulnerable.

@engineerlondon.bsky.social Insulators taking the strain during Storm Eowyn

@engineerlondon.bsky.social Right, over to you to form the band 🙂

275kV relay room from 1966 with a rich mix of technology deployed. I would have loved to have seen it in its heyday. My DAR here has worked many times in anger. Because we keep it in tip top order 👌🏻

How fast can a train go? The world speed record, which still stands, was set by a French train à grande vitesse (TGV) in 2007, when it topped out at 574.8 km/h (357 mph). 🚄🧵
