Please remember: even if it's 'just a bit of a cold' to you, it can be a significant illness for someone who is #ImmunoSuppressed or #ImmunoCompromised It is vital to take any requests they make around illness seriously - not to visit if you are unwell, wearing a facemask, or anything else.

Disabled people are often seen as demanding and controlling - in this blog I look at an example of why this might be, and what is really going on:

For me, the one that has been most meaningful is not letting fatphobia from others slide. My mom and sister are both thin, and my mom (and dad) has done diet culture garbage for decades. My sister is amazing about not letting them say shit in front of me or (much more importantly!) her kids.

Today's Rare Earth is about to start, and we're looking at the Pacific, a huge and culturally varied region with amazing land- and sea-scapes. Listen in to hear about the challenges, their approach, & what the future holds. On air at 12 today or online any time afterwards: www.bbc.co.uk/progra...

If more people recognized that they are in fact disabled, our conversations around disability would be entirely different. We talk a lot about how disability can happen to anyone at any time, but we don't talk enough about how stigma means many people don't acknowledge their existing disability.

Have you reached the point where literally anything is better than marinating in the constant horrors of current existence by doomscrolling through bad news all day? Good news! Taking a few minutes to do some dishes, pick up some clutter, or put away laundry qualifies as literally anything!

Sigh. This doom is not gonna scroll itself, is it

Please read and share. But especially share with folks that might not realize how critical Section 504 is to so many people. I tried to write a simple clear explanation at the break. I hope it reaches some people who aren't already on our side. Gift link: www.startribune.com/why-are-repu...

Can't believe I completely forgot what day it is today. youtu.be/WJBrAIVrK-4?...

I'm not a book author, so I'm just here to boost Blue Machine - I really loved it, particularly as an audio book read by Dr Czerski herself

If you feel guilty about stepping away from the news, make the last site you go to before putting the phone down the homepage of a local food pantry. Donate a couple of bucks, whatever you can spare. That will make an immediate, tangible difference in the lives of real people in your community.

UK folks: today’s the day! @yrfatfriendfilm.bsky.social airs on BBC Four TODAY at 10pm, and it’s on iplayer!

UK viewers - my wife @jeaniefinlay.com's documentary YOUR FAT FRIEND, about the brilliant @yrfatfriend.bsky.social screens on BBC4 next Tuesday night as part of the Storyville strand, and then on the iPlayer afterwards. It's a great, funny, moving film - don't miss it.

It will be easy to fall into a pattern of dunking & reacting in these times. Performing disapproval can be a consuming pastime & it is not enough. Refuse to abandon vulnerable people. Build a rebellious culture of care. If you need help, @prisonculture.bsky.social and I wrote a book to assist you.

If you're against the government's proposed AI opt-out system, please fill in this survey by the AOI (Association of Illustrators). It only takes 5-10 mins, and the results will be submitted by the AOI to the government. You don't need to be an AOI member to fill it out either

In todays orders there was a little flurry sales of this card. It's a particularly misunderstood aspect of hidden disabilities - 'but I saw you do it before' can be believed to mean 'you are faking' - when it's actually a variable symptom that means variable ability. (From: https://buff.ly/4a1xCWQ

Want all the UfYH good stuff in a tangible format? I have books! (Well, a book and a journal.) Get Unf*ck Your Habitat: You’re Better than Your Mess and/or Cleaning Sucks wherever you buy books — like your local bookshop, if you can! www.unfuckyourhabitat.com/get-the-book/

We don’t talk enough about the importance of standard components in a greener economy. Engineers always say “but *our* design for battery/connector/module is 2% better than a standard one”, missing the point that it’s far worse for repair, reuse, recycling & minimising extra “stuff”. It’s maddening.

It’s Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Day…. It is Chri hi hi hi hi stmas Day!

Geeeeettttt…. DRESSED, you merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay! For it is Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Day!

UK WRITERS: You need to fill in this consulation. Govt is very clearly looking to an opt-out model of rights licensing that puts all the burden on creators instead of profiteers. It's long and boring but this is important. www.gov.uk/government/c...

Today, the UK government announced a proposal to change copyright law - for the benefit of AI companies - that would cause huge, irreversible harm to creators. More info below, but most importantly here's what you can do (wherever you live): 1. Email your MP. Template letter in 🧵 👇 1/10

At this festive season there's a lot of social eating. Please be aware that this can be really hard for some people, and giving people space to eat what works for them, without pressure, is really important. #ARFID #Fatigue #Choking #Allergies #Intolerances #Gastroparesis #EatingDisorder
