I try to always use it for photos but I thought that posted text like a letter might be able to be read by text to speech software. I'm guessing it isnt.
I suspected that but could not be sure.

Of note, while the guide’s title suggests it’s just for the visually inspired, alt text helps others, too. For example, alt text helps people filter out content they want to mute, aids translation, etc
But deliberately halfassed effort like writing “alt text” or using it for jokes… That’s bullshit.
Some people will block or ignore your content if you omit or abuse alt text.

Too bad Bluesky doesn't allow editing posts (incl. alt texts). Would be nice to fix the one that slipped through. Oh well.
