The biggest boon I have is the years I spent in ministry. I had dozens of wonderful people model their best selves and live alongside me in church. And I do thankfully have an amazing extended family. I am grateful for my privilege, but that’s not scalable. White people need cultural third spaces…

I am about to turn 40. All 4 of my grandparents have been gone for at least 10 years. I have one set of friends who is about 10 years older than me. I am no-contact with my father, and I am only now developing a mature relationship with my mom. Who is teaching me how to be an elder?

I love this. At my last job we actually started a lending library in our wing. Several departments shared a bull pen, and we set up a little bookshelf and a notebook. When you added a book you wrote your name next to it so whoever read it next could come ask you how it was.

I actually read Artemis first. It has a more procedural feel to it, but it’s a good read. PHM is my favorite of the three.
