I am not going to claim this stuff is *easy* but I do think TV networks can make it *simple.* If you're a news department, your job is to present facts. Every time something false makes it on your air uncorrected, you failed. If you start from that rule, it should guide what you do from there.

And also note that our nation was the most prosperous with those 1950s/1960s tax rates (not the gilded age as Trump contends) AND the wealth gap shrunk (the middle class grew) And it happened under both Democratic and Republican presidents #TaxTheRich

fine print book 1 i'm sure this won't somehow result in a near apocalypse or anything.

👇🎯 They. Are. Breaking. Signed. Contracts. For. No. Legal. Reason. You want to pass legislation not funding this stuff going forward? Fine. Epically idiotic, but legal. This is something else. Shredding the basic foundations of the rule of law. Textbook authoritarianism.

Who would’ve thought we’d be living these books out? We are in perilous times.

Breaking News: Senator Chris Van Hollen met with Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man wrongly deported to El Salvador.

Thank you

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen went to El Salvador to lobby for the release of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, whose deportation has gripped the U.S. He isn't the only lawmaker with such a trip in mind.

Senator Chris Van Hollen, Democrat of Maryland, tried and failed on Wednesday to secure a meeting in El Salvador with Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, an immigrant and Maryland resident who was mistakenly deported by the Trump administration and remains imprisoned. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/16/u...

I have found incredible joy in the suffering of nuisance streamers

It was great to see NABTU come out swinging. The entire labor movement should be mobilized behind this. Not just speeches and skeets, full out pressure on Democrats to fight and people in the streets. We can't play business as usual while they're disappearing our members. bsky.app/profile/nycl...

Members of Congress should never be allowed to trade stocks. Period.

The logic of filling in public swimming pools with dirt or cement instead of racially integrating them, applied to the whole country

I happen to know that some powerful media orgs were unhappy that AP filed suit; they thought the conflict with the White House would blow over on its own and that AP risked making bad law. The AP's leadership deserves a lot of credit for having proceeded as it did. apnews.com/article/trum...

Perfect MG moment.

Gaza has been shut off from the world for 18 months. Do we think this is the only time the IDF have deliberately massacred civilians or aid workers, or is it the first time they’ve been caught doing it with proof the British press feel is so undeniable and egregious, that it has to be addressed?

Where is our humanity?

My heart goes out to every international student in the United States. Foreign students have helped make American universities the best in the world. Without them America will suffer.

@60minutes.bsky.social finds no evidence of criminal records in US or any other country for 75% of Venezuelans kidnapped and rendered to El Salvador. Of the rest, 22% had non-violent arrests for things like traffic violations.

Probably the best thread on bsky I've seen.

This weekend's anti-Trump/Musk "Hands Off!" protests were the largest since the rallies against the president in 2017. They come at a consequential early point in his term, as his job approval rating and key economic indicators spiral:

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

5.2 MILLION people and media missed us.

At some point the credit rating agencies have to confront this fact and the extent of his control over whether the US will pay its bills.

This is their crash. This is on them, too.

After Trump and Trumpism are consigned to the dust bin of history, we will need to spend a long time earning back the trust and friendship of our allies.

Adore that they call this an "inconvenience" when for millions of people correcting problems with #SocialSecurity is a matter of economic survival.

When we worry about the declining rates of literacy and a lack of reading skills, it's often about children. But how often are adults reading these days? And what are we reading? A new NPR/Ipsos poll finds out.

And to be clear, the government's argument in the Abrego Garcia case would apply even if it sent someone, including a U.S. citizen, to a foreign prison intentionally and with full knowledge that it was violating the law in doing so.

For those less familiar, you should know that magnetic tapes are proven reliable and cost efficient ways to have physical backups that have been known to survive nearly every type of natural disaster/catastrophy. Companies can and do pay many many millions a year for this type of reliability.

All over Ukraine, war has made nighttime darker. Satellite imagery shows a significant dimming of lights since 2022. Darkness has spread indoors too, with power cuts becoming common during the war.
