1. For a few years I’ve been slowly developing a large scale (ca. 1 hour) piece drawing on texts from Revelations of Divine Love. Think Symphony for large Chamber Choir in terms of scale

...and the line I may quote forever more to anyone who says climate reporting is too doomy:
"The problem is that the problem is so big that to even describe it factually sounds like scaremongering"

It’s amazing how prickly people are. It reminds me of the first time I ever tweeted back in 2010. Something flippant about classical music. And the first response I got was someone castigating me for having a different take on a piece to them. I didn’t tweet again for like 5 years.

They tried to regulate amplified busking in Dublin when I was an undergrad there, and there was outcry because the council were accused of stifling the music industry. Now if you walk up Grafton Street you can usually hear about 3 buskers at once all trying to be heard over one another’s amps.

The set bears the influence of my obsession with electronica, in particular ambient electronica. There may be a fair helping of Jean-Michel Jarre in there at times

My set of 6 new pieces brings together two of my recent focuses as a composer, namely Irish language choral music, and music about the importance of our relationship with the natural world.

This line is an extract from a poem called An Bóthar Glas (The Green Road) which will give its name to a concert given by Chamber Choir Ireland in February. Also featured will be some gorgeous music by @bernardhughes.bsky.social

Another fallacy of the Oxford Movement. In places where the clergy wear cassocks for the Eucharist they often wear their hoods . It’s only in places where they wear albs (or, god forbid, Cass-albs!) that the hood during Eucharist has become frowned on. Can’t have the choir looking more qualified!!
