Democrats will nap through anything but activate like sleeper agents to stop a mildly left candidate anywhere in the country

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on. slate.com/technology/2...

These people aren’t afraid Mamdani would be a bad mayor. We have a ridiculous, corrupt, incompetent mayor right now and the city is hanging in OK. They’re declaring all-out war because they’re afraid Mamdani (or Lander) might be a good mayor.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Like I've said before, if you have any doubts about climate change, just go to a super-boring insurance conference and listen to the super-boring panels where they dryly talk about the growing threat of disasters so catastrophic and unpredictable in scope they simply cannot be insured at any price.

AOC played ball and did everything Pelosi told her and was rewarded by being passed over for a 75-year-old who died four months later. There have now been four House votes this year where Dems lost by the margin of members who died in office. No one has more right to say this than her

This is a vital message: one of the larger reasons BlueSky is refreshingly free of alt-right shitlords is because in the early days we made a gentleperson’s agreement to starve these fuckos out and it worked. No likes, no quotes, no engagement. They got bored and left. Please keep the Old Ways.

It’s time the EU seriously review whether to block X.

i’ve never resonated with a video as much as this one

The JCPOA was a historic foreign policy achievement that blocked Iran's pathway to a nuclear weapon. Never forget that Donald Trump walked away from it solely because it was negotiated by the Obama-Biden administration.

"In a zero sum environment, there'd be acrimony between the candidates as they'd urge each other to drop out and unify behind one candidate. Instead, they were there to support one of their fellow candidates who was in federal custody for standing with immigrants." hellgatenyc.com/the-mayoral-...

Hell of a chart, this, from @financialtimes.com. Spot the JCPOA. on.ft.com/4kSuQYO

I finally used a Large Language Model ("AI") for something. A colleague grouped search phrases into categories, and I needed to QA the results. I was optimistic! Placing words and phrases into meaningful groups is one of the very narrow use-cases I might actually trust one of these models to do. No.

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

This is not actually a subtweet of anything specific right now, but I do want to make a plea to everyone to a) attribute and link to the source of any information you're sharing b) only share posts that do so. This isn't (just) about credit, it's about creating a chain of custody for information.

The leading NYC mayoral candidate demands that ICE release his primary opponent. That's where we're at, people.

Luckily, Galway will not experience any weather for the next 5 years.

New York City did not defund the police. This is not a thing that happened.

The Times saying last year they'd no longer endorse candidates in local elections, then immediately being like "oh but not THAT guy" 10 months later because the candidate wants free buses gives away the whole game. "Objectivity" means you break your own rules to punch left as much as you want.

I did an event in DC & there was a party for donors etc after. Was talking to 2 ppl & I said "Things are so bad." They said "No this is how it is. Things swing one way, then another. It's normal." That's when I realized why Dems are toothless. They have no idea what this is. Frogs boiling in water.

Fintan O’Toole: Official documents are quietly disappearing from departmental websites. Why?

Evergreen advice, for so many situations. Even if the book is rubbish, it helps you organize your own thoughts.

"Replacing Shakespeare with an Irish Drag Queen" sounds like British conservative mad-libs. I love it.

It’s strange how much I’m not a lyrics person. The words wash over me like a child listening to a grownups’ conversation. As far as I’m concerned, the human voice is just a musical instrument, and the message of the words is totally secondary to the tune.

Here's something I post from time to time. My answer to a reader who asked me: what could journalists do NOW to break with some of their more corrosive habits.

Thousands of Christians are being rounded up and deported by the U.S. government, but they’re not cottagecore tradmoms or their homeschooled goat milk enthusiasts, so these guys are fine with it. Actually, they’re thrilled.

The banality of evil.

Massive #NoKings march in New York City!

A reminder to reporters, when historians look back on this moment with the president throwing himself a military parade and the people throwing No Kings rallies across America, the media sources raving about the former and sneering at the latter are going to be quoted by name. This is your legacy!

BREAKING: Mamdani and Lander will cross-endorse. The partnership, which is being announced one day before early voting begins, would effectively turn Mamdani and Lander into something of a joint entry. They hope that one of them will eventually accumulate many of the other’s votes as a result.

Walking down the street in Brooklyn Heights, meeting Gabriel Byrne coming the other way. Only two people on the street. Half of me wishes I’d said “How’s she cuttin’?” or something else silly and obviously-Irish, half of me is glad I didn’t hassle him.
