We are looking for a great colleague @mcgill.ca Assistant Professor (Tenure Track), Department of Global and Public Health mcgill.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/McGill...

This new guidance is yet another step closer towards an isolationist, diminished view of American science. Changing rules on the fly wastes time & effort and undermines the pipeline of discovery and innovation. Unacceptable & inexcusable (again): grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

To say legacy media is not built for this moment is a gross understatement. The people destroying this country are being treated with respect.

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching. Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

I yield to medical doctors on medical guidance. The American Medical Association says “empirical evidence has demonstrated that trans and non-binary gender identities are normal variations of human identity and expression.” From the genetics side, sex and gender are not XX/XY binary, end sentence.

I noticed yesterday that there are accounts I follow here, which I just miss because of the Timeline view (no complaints). So, I'm trying something new with this week's Storytime, and I'm going to promote the everlivingshit out of it until even I am tired of seeing it, for maximum visibility.

I would really love it if mainstream journalists would seriously consider the possibility that RFK Jr.'s politicized HHS under Trump is as accurate about gender-affirming medicine as it is on autism or vaccination.

Weekly reminder: The average American diet requires about TWO ACRES of land PER PERSON per year And that’s food grown and raised by people who are experts at growing and raising food We need to fight for a safer and more sustainable U.S. food supply, not try to grow all our own food

RFK Jr. ordered the NIH’s Integrated Research Facility in Frederick to stop all research on serious infectious diseases yesterday at 5:00 PM. They study pathogens like Ebola there. You may be familiar with it from The Hot Zone. www.wired.com/story/hhs-ni...

Reddit is raising the alarm about what it called an “improper and highly unethical experiment” by a group of University of Zurich researchers, who secretly deployed AI bots on a popular forum to study how artificial intelligence can influence human opinion.

Lutnick: "We invent the iPhone, which is awesome. Why do we let everyone else build it? Why can't we build it here? ... we need hundreds of thousands of Americans who work in those factories."

It's time to make your voices heard, Illinoisans. Demand that Donald Trump, JD Vance, and Congressional Republicans prioritize your education over tax cuts for their wealthy friends. Stand up. Speak out. Show up.

🙌 Great news in New Scientist. An experimental study shows that air filters in classrooms: Reduced absence by: 👩‍🏫 12.5% or 1.3 days per pupil Reduced PM2.5 by: 🚸 32% Air filtration is a simple way to improve life for everyone. So what's stopping the government?!

“And I’m like, what do you mean, you ‘do your own research’? You running a double-blind study in your living room, dawg?” - A guy walking ahead of me with his friends on a NYC sidewalk in 2021, also my favorite overheard dialogue of the entire pandemic

I don’t fucking want GenAI. I WANT HIGH SPEED RAIL.

Host: You could call and get Abrego Garcia back. Trump: I could Host: But the Supreme Court has ordered you to facilitate his release. Trump: I'm not the one making this decision Host: You're the president!

Schrödinger’s autocrat: I Alone Can Fix It, but also my administration’s policy actions are the result of a committee of lawyers over whom I have no influence

this is a bust-out "DOGE has hollowed out or shut down 11 federal agencies and says it has terminated more than 8,500 contracts and 10,000 grants...these reported savings, so far, have not led to any meaningful decline in total government spending this year." www.politico.com/newsletters/...

If I wanted to destroy what is good about the the US, diminish its prestige and import in the world, and increase the suffering of all people, these are the types of things I would do.

I love adding this one data point to economic charts. It works every time.

Lutnick: "You're gonna see the greatest resurgence of domestic car manufacturing ever over the next two years. It's gonna be so fun. And I'll wear it. I promise it. And I'll wear it."

personally would like to see every store show what part of the price increase is due to tariffs bc if these tariffs ever come down, i need to see that price go right back down

key point from @pkrugman.bsky.social: it's literally impossible for foreign governments to negotiate with Trump because he and his people can't/won't even articulate a consistent set of demands paulkrugman.substack.com/p/trump-is-t...

Pritzker: The reckoning is here. And now that this culture of timidity is on display, these same do-nothing Democrats want to blame our losses on the defense of Black people, trans kids, and immigrants, instead of on their own lack of guts and gumption.

This is the message. You may like Pritzker, you may not, but whomever the new leaders of a reformed democratic party are, they will carry this message. This is the way to win. My two cents.

Do you think Lutnick wants *his* kids and grandkids spending their lives in a manufacturing plant, or are these just aspirations for "other people"?

Lutnick: "It's time to train people not to do the jobs of the past, but to do the great jobs of the future. This is the new model where you work in these kinds of plants for the rest of your life and your kids work here and your grandkids work here. We let the auto plants go overseas."

A horrible story but god bless this woman so accurately reading the ICE goons for filth here

Please highlight this story. ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago. kfor.com/news/local/w...

This, from a woman in Oklahoma talking to her local news station, is better than the vast majority of political speeches you'll hear today.

Your immune system isn't a Tamagotchi that dies if you don't play with it. "Immunity debt" is a marketing term to make you blame yourself instead of bad policy. Getting sick constantly isn't normal — it’s a public health failure.

🚨 I have just introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump. Donald Trump is not above the law, and when he ignores the constitution, he should be held accountable.

this is good. it's also the result almost certainly of the fact that he's facing a real primary challenge. which suggests we need more primary challenges.

This

I don't give the press a pass, but social media, particularly Meta, is responsible for a lot of where we are. It's the way algorithms determine which media and what news we see. It's the way social media algorithms push us into news environments that are essentially alternate realities.

People are NOT understanding what empty cargo ships from China means. It means no work for dock workers. No work for truck drivers, no work for retailers, fewer dollars circulating. The cascade effect is just mind boggling.

“This doesn't feel like a strategic plan to reorganize and make the NIH better and more efficient. It feels like a wrecking ball,” says an NIH insider, who asked 60 Minutes to protect his identity due to his concern about reprisal. https://cbsn.ws/3EKcER9

Doctor here: Canadians, PP would form a government as harmful to public health and rights of children, women, seniors, people with disabilities, 2SLGBTQ, Indigenous people, and minorities as the dumpster fire in the US. Polls don’t count, your votes count. Monday is election day. #CanadaStrong

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dismissed all of the staff that had distributed $1.7B annually in Social Services Block Grant funds, which many states had depended on for their child welfare, foster care and adoption systems.

This in a real story posted by NBC and blasted out to their email lists. The mainstream media is, without exaggeration, gonna kill us all.
