My medical specialty society has decided to no longer post over there and is here #bluesky🦋 let’s all follow @acog-org.bsky.social who is supporting evidence based medicine for physicians providing obstetrical and gynecological care to patients #obskyn #obgynsky #reprosky

One way to keep people docile is to prevent researchers from collecting the data that might reveal the full scope of the harm that's being done (in this case, to pregnant and postpartum people and their infants). talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/cdc-s...

This is an incredible loss. PRAMS (Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System) has been essential for understanding care access and outcomes in the perinatal and postpartum periods. For example, intimate partner violence before or after childbirth www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/38733...

ICPSR at University of Michigan has been one of the longest-running secure data archives in the world and is stepping up to the challenges being presented in the current U.S. environment to keep government data as a resource for researchers and policymakers. isr.umich.edu/giving/suppo...

Remember way back in the beginning of the 2020s when the U.S. federal government provided free breakfast and lunch to children at public schools across the entire country from sea to shining sea for like two whole years?

Explainer for why we can't just "use the university endowment." Most of it comes with strings from the donors...

THIS IS A MUST-READ PIECE. Please share, off Bluesky as well as on it. Most people *do not understand* how harmful these short-sighted cuts are going to be - for our economic as well as our physical health. 🧪🛟🩺

Bonus update! Choropleths are still visually distorted and overrepresent land, so we can instead use points that are sized by population. I added an example at the end to show one way to do this with {sf}'s magical st_centroid() #rstats www.andrewheiss.com/blog/2025/02...

How long until American research breaks? I have thoughts, as shared with @katiewuwrites.bsky.social in her outstanding piece. And I also know there is a blueprint for how we will rebuild (albeit slowly, sadly, after too much lost time & too many lost lives). www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

I'm putting together a starter pack for individuals and groups involved in #stillbirth research and advocacy. If you're not on the list and want to be, please like this post to be added. go.bsky.app/CDFYMia

Sigh another day, another colleague falls foul of post-hoc power calculation requests by a grant reviewer @lakens.bsky.social 's blog page comes in handy for this nonsense #episky daniellakens.blogspot.com/2014/12/obse...

Hi #EpiSky, today we'd like to talk about Dr Lucile Adams-Campbell, a long-time leader in cancer epidemiology. She is interested in health disparities, launching the Black Women's Health Study in 1995. Read more about her impressive career here:

Are you interested in analyzing small samples from marginalized communities and aren't sure how? My new commentary in AJE's collection on Methods in Social Epidemiology lays out rec's for researchers, public health practitioners, and data owners. DM your email address if you need access.

Unity Health Toronto is seeking an internationally recognized researcher in infectious disease epidemiology, health equity, and/or research integrity for the Arthur S. Slutsky Scholar in Residence Program. This is a 1-year appointment, including 4 months in residence at our research institute.

Sharing this #alzheiemers #dementia #ADRD research starter pack again since it’s been a few months and there have been some new additions! We are keeping science alive despite whatever is happening ✊ #geronsky #episky

We can't forget about epis in government and public service! Carissa Etienne served at all levels of government, from the Ministry of Health in Dominica, to PAHO and WHO. Read more about her here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carissa...

Dr Bernard Challenor was an EIS officer and worked at WHO. He contributed to smallpox eradication and advocated for healthcare system reform. As public health educator, he served as dean of @cupublichealth.bsky.social Read more about him here:

🎧 There's a new episode of Epidemiology Counts, covering the impacts of wildfires on public health. Tune in here: https://buff.ly/4hIPCZ9

Hearing from inside CDC that they just fired all the first-year Epidemic Intelligence Service officers. This is *terrible* news, these folks are future leaders in public health. It is a deep betrayal of these folks who have often passed up other opportunities to go through EIS.

"We need less research, better research, and research done for the right reasons." Doug Altman wrote this in 1994. NINETEEN NINETY FOUR! And it's only gotten much much worse. At least in medicine and health, we are doing harm by maintaining a stutus quo aimed at maximizing publication numbers.

I do think we should have discussions about how to do education research that is cost effective, but the implicit suggestion that the ED activities are wasteful/fraud is just wrong. Read on if you want concrete examples. Inexplicable Cuts at the Dept. of Education open.substack.com/pub/goodscie...

A quick resistance task: 1. Google Gulf of Mexico 2. “Gulf of America" is the top 3. Click on the three little dots to the right of it 4. Select "Send Feedback" 5. Click on "Gulf Of America" 6. Select "Inaccurate content" 7. Select "Incorrect" and type in "The correct name is “Gulf of Mexico"

Btw, just to be that guy again: Arguably the first, fiercest, and most persistent pushback to Trump’s admin so far has come from the Religious Left. If you’re wondering why that is, there’s a pretty good book on that topic that may help give you some context: bookshop.org/p/books/amer...

The move comes as the Trump administration suspended a federal refugee resettlement program as part of its broader effort to enforce its hardline immigration policies.

Hey if this got your blood pressure to spike don't forget that PSLF data etc. are actually tracked at studentaid.gov, I think this was just a redirect or something. Still, download your data, screenshot your PSLF progress, and if this goes bad and they re-open debtors' prisons, see you there I guess

It has been a rough couple of weeks. @joshjohnsoncomedy.bsky.social is a light in the darkness. Saw the video below when trying to understand the conversation here after the halftime show. 🫣 Then saw the treasure trove that is on his channel. youtube.com/watch?v=K3uW...

Thank you to everyone who stands with USAID. Share far and wide. Unfortunately we don’t have $40 million to buy up ads during the Super Bowl. Even if we did, we’d use it to support the U.S. economy while feeding kids around the globe. #StandWithUSAID #SaveForeignAid m.youtube.com/watch?v=PqUE...

This program was life-changing for so many people For young pediatricians who have $500,000 of debt and high interest rate, it made all the difference I am grateful to have benefitted from this program
